Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Unionize L1 and L2 individual contributors.

They have left you no other option. You can quit and get no severance or you can drive an average of 50 mins each way to sit in non-functional shared workspaces with no building services for 40 hours a week. This is not a choice, it is a mass age-based termination. Even forcing them to outsource would be a better outcome than RTO, because no contract firm would force in-office at this point.

That’s what negotiations are for. You think no union workers anywhere get some kind of incentive structure? Same for the tracking. Employees in say the New York Times unions etc don’t get tracked by the number of words written. It’s relevant to the job.

When it comes to unionizing, be careful what you wish for! Unions are legalized extortionists, period! Never did a bit of good for me except to take my money! CWA is on the same page with T, so the union is essentially powerless!

Such an id--t. We tech guys are not as stupid as y’all. Part of the negotiation for joining the union would be to map years of service into the fold ya ja----s. Otherwise no deal.

CWA here. We’ve been 5 days RTO with only a short break for a few during Covid. No exceptions. Not even for an ice storm. Believe me I tried to work from home during black ice and the boss said no way. Don’t think the CWA will help you with things like that.

I definitely agree , Individual contributors at least should unionize.
I would reccomend starting to collect names , organize offsite, you can use mail chimp or something similar to put out a mailing list with updates.

Yes, other large companies like Boeing have protections in place for folks at all levels. This needs to happen at AT&T. It is absolute incompetence and lack of strategy that the company spends money on monitoring internal employees rather than spending money on innovation, improving tools, and actual value add.
