Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I welcome RTO for one reason only

If they want me back to office 5 days a week, I will fully respect office hours. No more overtime, availability at all times of day and in the evenings, and definitely no extra effort.

If you are giving more than the 40 hours in the office, then your are giving away your time to the company that doesn't give a rats a$$ about you. Why not just drive down the highway throwing money out the window? It will get you the same place.

Giving your time away to the company means you don't actually value your contribution or experience. Why would the company if you are giving it away free?

"Now it just stays in the bag."

Mine stays in the office cubicle, locked down. No point even bringing it home.

Your extra effort equates to a participation trophy in real world work. Get over yourselves thinking each and every one of you keep this indebted boat afloat! Every single one of us are replaceable, some not easily, but replaceable!!

Used to be that I brought my laptop home and plugged it in as would need it from home the next day. Now it just stays in the bag.

“They will get 8 hours only and no extra after hours, no COU checking emails or responding to teams messages.”
So more than you are doing now? Great.

They will get 8 hours only and no extra after hours, no COU checking emails or responding to teams messages. Matter of fact you can have my cou. I won’t be using it anymore. All business will be on my laptop only and only in office.

'All of this "well, i'm only gonna work 8 hours now," quite honestly feels like back-sliding and surrender. We all know that if someone important calls you beyond those 8 hours, you'll answer that call.'

Actually, you are wrong. My COU will be off at 5. Working 8 to 5 is not giving less to the company, it is a full work week. That is exactly what they are telling us they want: five full days in the office. That is not flexible and I am no longer a flex worker, therefore I will not work like a flex worker. Starting January 6th, business can be delt with during business hours. Whomever needs me after 5 can leave a message and I will get back with that person between the hours of 8 and 5.

The only extra effort any of you made was to go grab that bagel out of the toaster before they missed you being on the zoom call.

Remember, none of you are that important to the success or downfall of the company. They don’t even know if you are breathing.

All of this "well, i'm only gonna work 8 hours now," quite honestly feels like back-sliding and surrender. We all know that if someone important calls you beyond those 8 hours, you'll answer that call. WHY? Because you need this JOB.

The CEO doesn't need his JOB. He's got a Diamond-Platinum Parachute waiting for him.

Rather than trying to act like you're gonna give less to AT&T, why don't you work to preserve your own health and best interests.

WHY? BECAUSE what is in your best interest SHOULD ultimately be in the best interests of the company. The two interests should neither diverge nor be mutually exclusive.

8 to 5 is all they are getting from me starting Jan 6th. I might even get a UPS for my laptop so I can put my pc in a locker and take off for a while.

RTO is saving a lot of marriages. There are some pretty miserable people on these boards who are the same way at home. Many spouses and children are happy RTO is happening. If remaining at home, the employee divorce rate would end up being much higher. Many employee family members see separation during the day as a positive.

Will be funny when this gets rolled back. Almost everyone I know has taken the stance of 8 hours and no more going forward. Takes two to tango, stankey legg

My extra effort is when I am on my long bathroom breaks.

“ Getting 8 hours of work a day will be a significant increase for many”

Since you’re such an ardent proponent, that 8 hours is likely your average shift at the bath house.

Getting 8 hours of work a day will be a significant increase for many, so RTO will be a win.
