We have a guy on the team who’s a complete dead weight. He’s mastered the art of pretending to be busy while dodging real tasks and leaving the rest of us to pick up the slack. Every time layoffs come around, I cross my fingers, but nope, he’s still here. But we did lose two team members who were great guys and even better workers. I just don't get it sometimes.

We had a guy that was like that. He got rif and then picked up by another team and still did nothing. Somehow, he got promoted recently
I do well, but cause plenty of waves. Management never pushes those waves upwards for changes. I'm usually met with a bring it up just with us kind of thing. Goes directly against the all inclusive credo. That management will not last. I may be under them, however the thing they don't realize is I make them their paychecks. They are technically under me. Reframe your mind. Reframe your importance. Let them know you mean business.
Starts at TOP.... still!!
Just sit around, be fat d-mb and happy then check your direct deposit every other week
It’s called “The Verizon Friends, Family and Cousin-in-Chennai Plan.”
Usually it's some kind of nepotistic connection and/or they have a friend up high and local supervision is scared of them. I've been seeing this since I was hired by the company many years ago. That's why I don't understand the assumption that folks that got RIFed somehow deserved it. I hear this all the time but it isn't reality in most cases. The proverbial "wrong place at the wrong time" is the biggest reason for anyone getting RIFed.
I always wondered how they pick who gets laid off
Had a similar person on my previous team. Just mention it to your manager and if you can't because they are friends... then switch teams. It's everywhere though so I wouldn't worry about it. Just focus on yourself.
