Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I am no longer a flex worker, therefore I will not work like a flex worker

My COU will be off at 5. Working 8 to 5 is not giving less to the company, it is a full work week. That is exactly what they are telling us they want: five full days in the office. That is not flexible and I am no longer a flex worker, therefore I will not work like a flex worker. Starting January 6th, business can be delt with during business hours. Whomever needs me after 5 can leave a message and I will get back with that person between the hours of 8 and 5.

This is how all of us under the 5-day RTO mandate should act. They wanted RTO, and I intend to fully adapt and turn it into an advantage for me.

I’m a bargained employee going on 25yrs and the reason I never even looked into management jobs is because how much they work them - basically 24x7x365. My job is 8-5 and the place can burn down before 8 or after 5 and I wouldn’t care -

When you gotta tell people about the hours you work, you probably aren't working many hours.

They want to go back to 1995, then we can do that. 9-5 it is, in office only. I want a desk and a landline also. Maybe they should live up to their motto: connection changes everything. I really thought that was the point. Connections change how we work also. I can access my teams meetings, emails, and calls from anywhere. I’m sure our execs aren’t sitting in front of a screen all day making sure their computer doesn’t go to sleep, while simultaneously taking a call on their cell, texting people about work, answering teams chats and emails. I’m sure they are using other connected devices like a cou or tablet, I bet their presence reports don’t show them meeting criteria based on those thing not counting.

But that’s not what this is about. This is all about headcount reduction. They estimate they will cut ~25% from the RTO efforts. Further reductions from terminating people based on broken presence reports that undercount hours. In the end this is about eliminating people without publicly announcing layoffs and having to pay expensive severance.
