Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any word on L2 layoffs?

With the L3 and L4 layoffs done, have we heard when L2s might be next?

What did Legg say about the waves in his org? what were the totals in his org? Has he shared that info like last year?
If he is saying he is done, then he has reached his target % reduction

Wave 3 is on different timelines in different orgs. I am in finance and got my wave 3 letter yesterday. I have a month to give my decision (I’m not moving). I will be off payroll around June 2025.

AT&T has a version of Elon and Vivek’s DOGE that’s been underway for a few years. I expect management reductions in 2025 to be focused on high expense, low revenue groups who are taking up real estate that the company has already marked to sell or reduce square footage, energy consumption, insurance and other exposure and commitments. Such areas may include the following:

  • Continued L3/L4 right-sizing based on low span of control and not being located in Dallas
  • Hub consolidations (L1/L2) to Dallas
  • Reduce Sales overlay teams that seem to do duplicate work.
  • Project Management teams - larger qualifications and requirements will reduce project eligibility anyway (AI will replace them)
  • Special pricing teams (AI will replace this group too)
  • Dallas employees who don’t adhere to 5-day return to office
  • Dallas L3/L4,L5 who don’t enforce attendance with their teams
  • Legacy / TDM non-revenue producing / staff roles (Marketing)
  • Retail wireless store consolidations
  • “Culture” teams who are straight expense and seem to be an arm of Stankey’s own PR group. I refer to them as social media / photo op groups who are quick to hashtag all their events stuffing bags for students without internet, ribbon-cutting for new Fiber area in some rural community, and handing out trash and trinkets at the state fair.

With more people being shuffled into already over-crowded office buildings, don’t expect better conditions and investment into parking, clean bathrooms, conf room availability. If you don’t like it, and you’re already complaining about 5 days a week, you’ll just be forced out so the 25 year old can come in. Then they’ll finally figure out this is not Google or Meta and then leave. Problem solved - no employees.

Just the idea of reducing severance to 30 days vs up to six months, and possibly changing pension lump-sum distribution methods as interest rates begin to drop will also aide older employees who might raise their hand in 2025.

When did L2 layoffs stop? They are continuous.

11/22 notice and 12/13 off payroll is the last this year. 2025 is unknown.

'You people have no idea what’s going on because you don’t listen.'

I would rather watch what happens verses listen to what the leaders say. Per the old saying, 'actions speak louder than words'. AT&T has not consolidated all the hubs yet. There are still a lot of management folks spread out across the country that can be colocated in one of the official hubs. AT&T will continue to reduce those locations. So, it might not be a specific "wave" but the force relocations will continue. As well, AT&T has been surplussing people every year for the last 20+ years. The surplussing will not stop. It is continuous and will never stop.

There is no “next phase” of relocations. Wave 3 is over and that was the last one. Legg stated this himself during his last town hall.

You people have no idea what’s going on because you don’t listen.

“Some in other areas, but the direction they are going is clear to me that Dallas is the backfill spot or overseas”
This is just now becoming clear? Have you been living under a rock?

Next phase of relocations will be coming up soon. I’m seeing a lot of jobs being posted in career hub, unfortunately most are in Dallas, Bratislava, and India. Some in other areas, but the direction they are going is clear to me that Dallas is the backfill spot or overseas.

Foolish question and probably from a non employee, because as all of US know, they have never stopped at L2.

None of the layoffs are “done”

L1 and L2 are usually lumped together and happen almost monthly. Next large wave I’ve heard is January. Varies by group though as always!
