Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Id like to see Bill and Farley “begging”

Ford should have listened to vehicle purchasers, not a temporarily installed government:

Executives at Ford Motor Company, General Motors (GM), and Stellantis are begging President-elect Donald Trump to keep in place President Joe Biden’s Electric Vehicle (EV) mandates. The plea comes as automakers have invested billions in EVs that have failed to turn a profit.

In March of this year, Biden issued a federal regulation to begin phasing out gas-powered cars, requiring American automakers to produce EVs and ensure that by 2032, the majority of new cars sold in the U.S. market are electric.

Since then, Ford, GM, and Stellantis have staked their futures on EVs. The results have been bleak as the initiative remains unprofitable, with American consumers turned off to the high cost and increased issues that arise with EVs.

The auto executives are now quietly lobbying Trump to keep Biden’s EV mandates — despite a recent study showing almost 125,000 auto manufacturing jobs are at risk of being eliminated due to the federal rule.

The New York Times reports:

Three of the nation’s largest automakers, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, are strategizing with other car manufacturers on how to make a delicate request of President-elect Donald J. Trump: Don’t scrap the federal regulations that compel the industry to sell electric vehicles. [Emphasis added]

In fact, most automakers don’t love the more stringent rules Mr. Biden put in place. But they have already invested billions in a transition to electric vehicles, and fear that if Mr. Trump made an abrupt change as he has promised, they could be undercut by automakers who sell cheaper, gas-powered cars. They argue it would harm an industry that is a backbone of American manufacturing and employs 1.1 million people. [Emphasis added]

Lobbyists and officials from several car companies say the automakers want the Biden regulations to remain largely intact, with some changes such as more time for compliance and lower penalties for companies that don’t meet the requirements. [Emphasis added]

Trump and Vice President-Elect JD Vance have long committed to throwing out Biden’s EV mandate, noting that hundreds of thousands of American auto jobs are at risk because of the mandate.

The auto executives are asking Trump to keep the EV mandate in place even as going all-electric has been a bust for their companies. Business Insider reports that the likes of Ford, GM, and Stellantis are all planning layoffs because of their EV push, which has not been profitable.

GM, for example, has invested $35 billion into EVs. CEO Mary Barra said in October that even though EVs are still not profitable, she plans to make the automaker all-electric by 2035.

Similarly, Ford’s EV sales have been so poor that the automaker is now giving away EV charging stations and free installation whenever an EV is purchased.

I'd like to see them sent packing... begging will not solve FMC's issues, but sending these guys away will.

I can’t wait for the new administration cut these EVs off at the knees. Scrap the EV mandate on day one and let the market decide what the automakers to build.
Then the automakers can fire all of the pro-EV people, rehire all of the ICE engineers that they laid off and start building vehicles that people actually want. Of course that’s just a dream as the executives are big believers in all of the climate change nonsense.

@ime+1vDeuoOZ this is the way: "they just don’t want them to be more expensive and change the way you travel/drive" ... even if they did change the way you travelled a bit, at least if they cost less, there would be a reason to get one. like econoboxes of lore. hey they're more kr---y, but at least they use less gas and cost less. and some were kinda fun to drive in a way. but a worse experience And cost more? no way. sorry to hear about your forced retirement. many i know were in that boat, tricked by the promises of "we're like family."

Ford was given excellent solutions to their EV problems years ago.

One was for modular, replaceable battery modules that could be swapped out quickly and charged externally. The number and capacity could be changed depending on the needs of the customer. Battery replacement cost would be minimal.

The second was to offer small trailers with ICE generators for those instances long distances needed to be traveled.

Ford outright rejected these ideas.

So, I hope Trump dumps the EV mandate.

Ford and other auto companies are dependent on China like most of Americans and only interest in $$$$$$$$.

These auto companies keep selling you out!!!

Billy and Jimmy always convey there are not dependent on the Government when in reality that's all they have to keep running the business. Americans want ICE vehicles because if all we have is EV's they'll have total control.

As a former Ford employee that was forcibly retired back in 2022. ( you don’t have to agree to take the package, but you will no longer have a job as of Monday. Oh, and you can also retire, too! Before I even made a decision, a welcome to your retirement package had already been mailed to my house because it was I my mail the very same Wednesday I was told) I don’t given a sh-t what happens to Ford.

It’s not necessarily that people don’t want electric vehicles, they just don’t want them to be more expensive and change the way you travel/drive. ( even fastest charged take double to triple the top to completely top of your battery compared to a fuel tank)

There is a place for BEV; but in s country as large and mostly rural like USA, a mandate such as what is being pushed is unreasonable and unworkable, this isn’t some island like UK or continental Europe where everything is close together.

This is what happens when you follow as opposed to lead. We had a chance to grow hybrids; Bill, Hackett, Farley and the BoD chose not to. We now have OAP which is now idle and was churning out decent product with the Edge (see them everywhere and we got rid of it). We instead have failed investment for MachE, Lightning, and lest we forget eTransit. This Gen2 stuff if it ever happens will be another cash burner. Our ICE launches and quality have been abysmal the last few years. Our solution is to fire non-decision makers. All around bad deal. And the truth: there is nothing…NOTHING coming in the pipeline that will fix this company. I predict insolvency at worst, at best a hostile takeover or merger. Buckle up kiddos because it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Too much negative ROI, no accountability whatsoever.

How stupid can Bill be? Free market. EVs will put Ford out of business. Maybe they want to file bankruptcy for the bail out.

If everyone tomorrow at PDC bought EVs when there are at most a dozen chargers in the PDC parking lot? It took over a hundred years for the ICE vehicles infrastructure that we enjoy every day. EVs is the biggest con that our customers are smart enough to reject.

Model e is working on the charging concerns and challenges. This is not unsolvable. BEV can be every bit as convenient to ICE for the well majority of customers.

It’s very possible that the executives are true believers of “THE MESSAGE” and thus want people to be forced to drive EVs.
EVs are simply not on par with ICE vehicles. They have too many drawbacks.
So, keep pushing them and they will go broke.

Ford should consider building a nuclear power plant in order to provide free electricity for peeps who buy Ford EV’s. You know, as an incentive.
