Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why are we still opening new branches?

Shouldn't the goal be to get rid of most if not all of them?

They have to open branches so it looks like they are hiring in the US. Tellers can’t work from India.

They are opening them near old-age homes where people don't know how to use their cell phones.

close where there is too much density of WF branches and open where there is fewer to gain more market share. people still go to the banks with the branches near them. it is a security blanket - if there is a problem, they can go and get something done - at least that's the perception.

We’re opening them in high opportunity areas. I know it’s hard to see when working for this company, but there are other aspects to business outside of just cutting jobs. There’s also something called product sales, which marketing is needed to do. Physical branches are part of our marketing strategy.

I know it is odd since upper mgt seems to care very little about product sales and revenue. Only a few steps above Bud Light and Jaguar when it comes to that.
