Accommodations

Is it worth submitting an accommodation for a renewal? I hear they are just denying them but then I hear of a couple people getting them approved. Don’t know if I want to waste my time & deal with more stress. Or does it really just depend on your rep?

Point blank, if you can go to the office without the accommodation then you likely don’t need it. So your question is weird. If you need an accommodation and your dr agrees and your dr is normal and most other drs would agree when presented w same evidence then expect it being granted.

the manager doesn't opine on whether the situation merits an accommodation or what the accommodation is. that is solely determined by the accommodations group based on what is provided by your doctor.

what the manager does weigh in on is whether the accommodation produces "undue hardship" to the business.

this is how the law works. businesses are required to provide "reasonable" accommodations as long as it does not cause "undue hardship" to the business.

It's going to be pretty funny to watch you get walked out of the building, cardboard box in hand, mumbling "...but, but, I came into the office..."

Best part is, they will cite your inefficiency as the reason for your demise. Admin buildings are incredibly inefficient, after all. Going to them makes you part of the problem. Understand what they are doing yet?

So your manager is now a doctor that can tell how you should be accommodated? Lawsuit waiting to happen.?They give managers too much discretion and most of them are uneducated.

Is have in 100% VA Disability a help or hinderance when requesting an accommodations request? Technology non-hub remote but doing a forced relocation to a Tech hub next year (unless I win the lottery).

Would be nice if all these people would get accommodated out of the company.

I saw a LinkedIn post earlier this week from a long-time Wells employee in NYC who was laid off because she was forced to RTO and Wells would no longer honor her accommodation. It might be tempting to dismiss this as her having been abusing the system, but she didn't seem to be the type who'd do that.

I thought about submitting an accommodation request initially after hearing some of the absurd reasons people used and still got approval. However, based on what I’ve heard/seen recently I decided not to as it appears folks in this situation are either being laid off or forced to RTO or get laid off.

What are the typical/most common reasons these accommodations can get approved?

Here is a simple question. Did you work in the office before COVID? If so, stop wasting time and just get back to your norm.

Had to re-submit and was just yesterday approved for another 6 months.

Mine was approved. If yours is a made up condition to avoid RTO it probably won’t fly this year.

HR evaluates the request and the medical back up from your doctor. They then formulate a "reasonable" accommodation and take it to your manager. It is up to your manager to say IF they can support the accommodation. So, both HR and your manager have input.

Managers have no say over accommodations. However, accommodations have been told to get these people into the office aggressively if physically possible.

Ultimately, it will be up to your manager whether you are approved or not. The accommodation team’s only goal is to accommodate you in the office.

It just really depends on your situation… and whether you have an ADA covered condition/disability, documentation from your doctor, whether WFH is the only way it can be accommodated, and whether your manager will say it causes “undue hardship” or not.
