Verizon is underpaying many of us

With everything I bring to the table, I’d say I deserve at least $10,000 more. At least. Who else feels this way? How much more should you realistically be making?

An extra $10,000 could place you into the bullseye category for the next RIF when the higher salaried employees must go and be replaced with someone that knows zero. And most likely with someone from Europe where most young people have never heard of VZ.

The reason for this is that the telecom industry is a dying industry. No more profit and sales can be gained here. Therefore, salaries must be low to account for the overly large numbers of employees. The teleco's have way more employees in IT then what is needed to run the phone stores.

I left a network role for a utility doing a similar job, I’m making more and work went from 100mph feel and split/double shifts working day and night tasks.. to day only with more pay.

Verizon doesn’t give salary raises to retain employees. Existing employee presented competing offer and HR wouldn’t budge $1.

You have to use the correct words “I am requesting my salary be reviewed against my peers’.” And HR can check if you are within reasonable bounds compared to your coworkers (this will only get you to the middle 50% if you are truly an EXTREME outlier).

Some people in GN&T at the principal engineer level put in for retirement and they were given a bump to Distinguished to retain them. Distinguished is still a 6V so this was probably a 5% increase (lateral), an ego boost, and lastly, some technical 6V’s got a Stock Together bump from $10k to $15k.

So maybe they got $10k total, but all of them that I knew did it, still put in for VSP. It just bought the company another year with them (if that).
