For those who have left the company or plan on leaving, where are you looking fof work? What type of jobs are you applying to now? Just curious what people out there are doing.

I was laid off at the start of the summer. My relationship with my manager was the most toxic I'd ever had with anyone. Don't know if I rubbed him the wrong way or what, got piped and tried to fight it, lost. Applied, Interviewed, failed, a lot. Got scammed a lot with fake job postings. Took a vacation and realized all my former coworkers who keep messaging me, keep asking where I'm going because they want references so they can also leave. Finally landed a job and starting soon, this time closer to home and in a company where hopefully my manager doesn't try to actively sabotage me.

Does my approach fit everyone's path, probably not. Just try to apply with references or get in contact with actual recruiters who place you into real companies. The amount of times I reached final round interviews to just be told no is more than I want to admit. Also if you are serious about leaving, use tools like Simplify to automate filling in all the application forms if you don't have a lot of friends in other companies.

Whatever you do, don’t waste your time applying on recruiting sites such as LinkedIn or Glassdoor. It’s a resume trashing system full of scammers and fake postings.

It’s much better to use your network or hunt for your next “boss” selectively, making sure it’s someone you really want to work for.

Ok since you think I’m lying, here’s numbers. 100k salary at BNY + 15k ish bonus each year. New base is 115k, bonus eligibility is 50% of base. Profit sharing into 401k averages 20-25k each year. Bonus typically pays out around 75-80% of max. BNY salary was ok, but bonuses and 401k annual contribution was trash. Again way less benefits, but the cash helps cover a lot of that.

I am a professional cat sitter now.
They tell me exactly what they require and when. The cats also allow me to work from home as they stay at my place. A turkish angora rated me as exceeds expectations. I am raking it in! And in the litter box.

Great - Happy for you. But lets do a look why it is a made up story

50% Total Comp - increase 50k more means the pay (BNY pays meaningless bonus so lets ignore that) was 100k (simple math)
70% Total Comp - increase 50k more means the pay was around 75k

And as anonymous post one wonders why you were hiding behind 50-70 a 20% range ?

Also one is hiding behind Total Comp which may include Cash Bonus, Options Sign On Bonus etc. It is not a SALARY increase. You never said 50k more in salary in original post explicitly but it was implied ..

Do not know why I am thinking about it - unable to prevent the analytical mind kicking in

But if you really left BNY - happy for you that brought you a happy life - whatever your pay is :)

To clarify the loss of benefits with extra pay, the pay bump and promotion was significant. Total comp is between 50-70% more than at BNY. I get half as much vacation and no parental leave, but those are only impactful on a small scale and you still get flexibility by being in a smaller organization. Extra pay can definitely make up for other small benefit losses. I was hesitant to make the jump, but am glad I did. Even my spouse comments on how much happier I seem in this new role.

Non-growth centers are no -growth centers for a reason. Not a lot of jobs available in some of these markets. Best of luck to everyone who is looking/laid off, etc.

@atv+1vNMkza1 - Made up story - Sorry! Not that I would like to be in the same boat but the market is not paying 50k (even if you made 200k ,50k is a huge jump ) with WFH - Been looking for a job with 15+ years in tech and it is not that rosy

@1fai+1vNMkza1 - is more realistic from my experience Better pay but more at office or less benefits. Bottom line not a big financial advantage but lets one move away from this toxic dump - Then it becomes a choice whether jump or wait for the LO to get few months of paid vacation.

As a techie I strongly feel that I do not fear being without a job. Consulting jobs for qualified folks still pays nicely if one likes the constant churning .. Keeps one on their toes

Same type of work, but different industry. In office 5 days/wk but it’s close to where I live. Smaller company, less benefits, way better pay. I’ve been very happy with the move.

I was laid off this year. I got sub pay for a couple of months and found a job shortly after. I got an offer at another bank for $50k more and I work from home. It’s less stress and the best thing that ever happened.

I was laid off in October. I was with the company for 24 years so I have some time to think of what I will do next. All I know is I will not do anything with banking. I am limited to what is available where I live but I am hoping to find something totally different and that will make me happy.
