Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Vacation time..

So even though I was let go due to not meeting the working together policy(though I always was above model or on model and yes some times I stayed for a few hours and others did scan n go(my boss was pretty relaxed about it and told us didnt care where we got work done), I called hr and found out aftee january 1st 2024, we dont even get paid on any remaining vacation time we dont use. I really hope thats wrong cause I had two weeks left and every company I have worked for in the past always paid out unused vacation time. Can anyone verify if this is true that I lose my whole two weeks??

I know this site is mostly for venting, but we should emphasize good things as equal.
Oracle system is great, you can book your own time off and is approved automatically, no questions asked.

We all have our delusions, don’t we…

“you have a good case as you won your unemployment claim,
talk to an attorney they would take it up mostly on contigency if they feel it can be won.
you got a million plus dollar case here- courts will award punitive damages to you”.

Yes, there is a policy that documents the process of corrective action that should be taken before firing an employee. You will find numerous reminders, warnings and details in a place called your “email inbox”.

Thank you for self selecting to leave so that we don’t need layoffs. We are all in debt to you for your selfless sacrifice.

The vacation policy changed and was documented in an email and other forums earlier in the year and I think as far back as July, 2023. It's not totally clear because they both communicate too much (the web banner spashes) but not enough (emails are easily lost among other emails about non-sense).

As of the end of 2023 or early 2024, unused vacation except for purchased vacation is non-refundable. I don't like it, but that's what it said more or less.

Under current rules this year, if terminated, you get no vacation or unpaid time off. Only purchased vacation not used is given back.
You lose. Good day.

@vwi+1vO0Jfiz I won my unemployment claim against them last year when they abruptly let me go. I had all of my conversations with my manager and upper management documented and my inquiry with hr on specifics of the policy where i was told incorrect information. I’m glad I had copies for myself to provide and I successfully received full benefits.

File for UE if you boss said it didn't matter where you worked.
As for unused vacation pay, they got rid of it as part of Robin's emphasis on culture. Although some states require them to pay it to you.

Isn’t there some sort of policy that documents the process of corrective action that should be taken before firing an employee? Shouldn’t it be verbal warning, written warning and then final written warning rather than just an abrupt firing? I know most folks are ‘at will’ employees, but can’t the bank get sued for not following its written policies? I can see a quick firing for something egregious like stealing money, but not conforming to in-office requirements I don’t think rises to that level. People should get warnings and the chance to correct themselves before being fired. I know this is to save money and reduce headcount, just wondering if anyone knows of any legal action being taken against the bank?

They were canned, because they said sometimes they "scan and go". Meaning a badge swipe, but no network login.

It changed this year no unused vacation days will be paid and you will also not receive the 401k match since you will not be employed as of 12/31.

If you purchased vacation days, and they Rif you, I assume they will reimburse you what you paid into those days so far?

Hmmm, if you always been on or above model, how did they let you go for not meeting RTO ??

The firm has the policy ONLY one week carry over (automatic) and must be used by March 31 following year. Before Oracle kicked in (where Carry over is automatic ) the manager had to do it manually in the system. No more power for managers :)

And ALL other Time Off gets reset - unused vacation,, unused sick time, unused Work from Anywhere, unused this unused that .

It has been in force for a very very long time NOT from Jan 1 2024.

What was implemented in Jan 1, 2024. The unused vacation - which used to be paid when one gets laid off (not terminated for cause) - will no longer be paid.

Yeah, gotta pay attention to those People Team emails. They’re chipping away at benefits all the time. You likely wont get a 401k contribution next year either.
