Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Dear Mr. Stankey 5 Day RTO…improves nothing

So it appears we will be returning to the office 5 days in January. Why? So many productive employees now working 3 days in office and 2 virtual why punish them for the ones who are not being compliant instead of going after those who are not. It’s simple those who aren’t compliant are told they must show they are being compliant for the next 60 days without exception and if not they will be terminated. Don’t punish the rest of us. You’re not building goodwill and increased productivity by going back to forcing people into the office 5 days a week. Please Mr. Stankey..the majority of us care about the company. The 3 day RTO has made our lives better by eliminating committing time and the stress that goes along with it. It also allows us to work from home in a more comfortable setting and results in being more happy when we are in the office/ don’t ruin that because a minority aren’t complying. Target them for compliance and make them live up to it rather than all of us. Respectfully..a loyal AT&T employee

it's not meant to improve anything, it's meant to catch you working less than 5 in office and fire you without severance, or make you quit, without severance

The 5 Day in office policy is a move to enforce greater accountability, and to reduce future costs by enhancing an environment which allows better observation of productive work practices. The results of this observation may lead to additional efficiencies through headcount modification. Detractors opposed to corporate policies may hold a number of different personal interpretations of these policies.

"5 day RTO is to recoup the loss of 15% of remote workers having too many distractions at home."

This must be sarcasm. The worst abusers of WFH have been given RW status.

“ The companies get tax credit that is claimed as depreciation from facilities being used. ”

Assets OWNED can be deprecated regardless of how they’re used. An empty office doesn’t depreciate less than if it’s occupied.

The companies get tax credit that is claimed as depreciation from facilities being used. T used to get it previously when they were traditionally in office , they may have taken a hit during pandemic , it may be a move to get that back now. Work will get done no matter where you are, it’s not the same for tax.

I mean, you can hate on software engineers but hey…at the end of the day I make a lot more money than you do…so who cares what you have to say, honestly.

I’ll go cry in my paid off Mercedes and open my stock portfolio to feel better while you fret over your 1000 T shares that have been flat for 5+ years.

“ I’m a principal software engineer overseeing multiple projects that save the company a combined $20 million+ a year…so part of my job is making sure sh-t is actually getting done. What do you do?”

You’re a coding commodity monkey 🐒
You don’t oversee anything. You cower in your cube with your head down, coding to keep up with your $12 an hour counterpart in India. Your $20 million in savings has evaporated on your two projects because they are already 9 months late and triple the number of contractors siphoning off funds. So shut your trap and send off your status to the other commodity monkey that is tracking your effort while adding zero value.

T hates their employees plain and simple. They want you gone, they hate you, they want you to quit. They sure as heck won't make your life easier by continuing on the hybrid. T is broke and the only cost-saving measures stank knows due to his room temp IQ, is this. Apply somewhere, update your resume. Comply the 5 days but keep looking. You win by getting another job offer. Do minimal at work, bring your laptop/ipad with your own service or use their wifi and use that time to apply for another job.

quit whining and go to the office. we did it before the great plague and can certainly do it again. it is not for us to decide, the company executives are the deciders. if we dont like it we can leave. If you have structured your life such that you completely depend on whatever benefits you get out of an AT&T job, that's on you. --- John Stankey

They don't care about you. This is about making working environment so miserable that you quit. This is about making you miserable. They want you gone but don't want to pay employees to get rid of them. If you don't leave after 5 day RTO announcement they will: 1) close buildings down and crowd employees into ever-tighter office space, 2) reduce severance packages to 30 days max; 3) move more pensions over to Athene; 4) flat to 2% max pay raises; 5) small yearly bonuses; 6) increase amount employees pay for company's catastrophic healthcare choices. . . . All while saving this money in order to increase their awards via $20 billion stock buyback.

Corporate culture = toxic money-grubbing soulless executive management

They figure the folks that remain will be younger workforce willing to accept more bs

This is totally wrong, and the opposite of what’s happening in reality. Everyone young is taking their experience and leaving the company because they are the ones who hate RTO the most and have the easiest time changing jobs.

But RTO does vastly improve things - for the Stink! It makes Toxic-T more Toxic! The Stink loves to F over employees. The Stink is pleased!

Now we have to coffee badge 5 days instead of 3. I hope they manage this as well as they have getting off copper. Remember project 2020 well our own company circuits are still on T1 and DS0.

It’s not so simple for the lifers who complain the most about RTO.

For the people saying “just get back to the office and stop whining” the complaining and productivity drain isn’t going to stop. The question is, will return to office offset the loss of productivity due to low morale and malicious compliance? I’m betting no it won’t since I’ve already personally seen a huge drop in productivity since all of this began.

I suspect they will see this and reverse course once Stankey is gone.

When I work from home, I do laundry, make Costco runs, do house cleaning so I free up my weekends, cook dinner, grocery shop, etc., etc.! Why not, I feel like I’m getting paid to do these things. WFH is great, but you see my point...? It’s the best of both worlds!

5-days is simply to trim the herd , nothing more, they know folks close to retirement will move up their date , no one wants to sit in traffic staring at tailights when their 50+ for 5 DAYS A WEEK! week after week..
They figure the folks that remain will be younger workforce willing to accept more bs , it will probabyl be like this for a while... .just remember long after Stankey or Legg or Mcelfesh retire with their multi-million dollar golden parachutes, you will still be looking at those taillights in the dark of winter...

Oh please. This has nothing to do with productivity. Like most things it has multiple causes, none of which has to do with employee behavior. Like children Americans think in terms of good and bad behavior. Not virtuous enough to measure up to the exacting moral standards of our masters? Don't make me laugh. Our so called leadership has no moral standards. They are trying to shake people loose and as a side benefit revive a moribund urban culture and economy. You have to fill S. Akard with hungry workers or the Discovery zone withers. And of course people leaving without severance is a great benefit for the C-suite lunkheads too.
Just don't think it's behavior. That's laughable.

This has nothing to do with people not complying. They are using that as an excuse to turn the workforce on each other and take the attention off them. This is to force people out, this is to make this a miserable place to work so you leave. That’s why they are forcing people to commute long hours, or more to Dallas. This is all about power and control.

People, there's a very simple solution to RTO! If you don't like it, move on, there are many companies out there that allow WFH, go there apply, be happy and quit whining like a sniveling little 5 year old that can't have your way! You've beat a dead horse to several deaths and nothing has changed! Go elsewhere, thrive, be happy, make another life for yourself! It's a very simple fix! There are 7 million open jobs out there, go for it!

Imho, should have went to 2 days RTO at most. Only reason to enforce 5 days and count hours is to force people to quit or give you reason to fire someone.
