Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Seeking to connect with others impacted by recent layoffs

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if others have been affected by the recent terminations particularly related to the enforcement of the return to office policies.

I am interested in hearing from employees who:

Were terminated despite badging in or logging into the company server.
Feel the RTO policy was unfairly or inconsistently enforced.
Believe the terminations were part of broader layoffs or workforce reductions.
I want to connect with others who might be in a similar situation. If you were impacted, feel free to share your experience or reach out privately to discuss this further.

This is purely an effort to understand how widespread this situation might be. Any insights or experiences shared will remain confidential unless we agree otherwise.

Stop playing games… you are likely already slated to be fired for cause.

Layoffs have nothing to do with RTO. People not coming to work are not laid off. They are terminates for cause, I.e. displacement.

@1kwp+1vOhcLOD Because of the vagueness of the policy. I was constantly being told different things by management and hr. For example I was told directly from my hr query that holidays counted as in office days. If there was a holiday during the week I only needed to be in the office twice that week. Obviously there was a lot of confusion around the policy since the company had to invest in a tool so employees could see if they were in compliance or not.

Why would do one's own tracking? That sounds suspicious. Journal writing is a different habit. But tracking ..?

You obviously failed BNY security training too. Clicking on suspicious or unknown links exposes you and your credentials. You wont even know it until it’s too late. As for legal information, that’s why people hire attorneys. And the firm has an army of them and they are air tight on this.

@sbo+1vOhcLOD the poster's request is pretty specific. I clicked on the link they provided and it's a standard google form with survey questions. It looks like the person wants to figure out how many people have been impacted similarly and based on the response what legal options are available. They don't ask for any personal information.

Anonymous?
Yeah sure.
This smells like a trap set by BNY HR rat catchers on here.
Avoid the stu-pid.

@nxw+1vOhcLOD Did they tell you why they let you go?

Happened to me last year before the tracking tool was implemented I was doing my own tracking. My immediate manager knew everything I was doing and approved it via email. I documented my various conversations with upper management and hr. Was never given a specific cause for termination but I was able to successfully receive unemployment despite the firms effort to fight it I had documented communications and won the appeal. I found it basically comes down to who or how they select to enforce it. I’m not sure if it has gotten any better in the year since but I’m glad to be out of there.

How did you get full time WFH approved?

I was one of those who was terminally yesterday due to sometimes doing scan n go. Yes I admit I did that but office where I am at we have to pay for parking. The manager I worked for always stated that he didnt care where we did our work, as long as it got done. When they were enforcing the tracking earlier this year, I called hr and asked them specifically how it worked and what counted you being in office. I was told it was scanning your badge, or if you didnt have your badge logging into computer at office. I am not always working 8-5 when I have worked for bny. I have worked outside normal hours, late at night, weekends, and even while on vacation processing trades for my clients. From what I have been hearing, they plan on reinforcing the 3 times a week must stay 8 hours for you to be “safe”.. also heard they may switch to all five days. What I find ridiculous is that I was still let go after I even got my approval to wfh full time approved last month.
