Commute to new location?

For those who have received relocation packages, is commuting to the location and not moving an option? For example, if they were to shut down my current work location and I live an hour and a half away from the hub could I drive there three times a week?

Don’t assume that if they close your location, you will be able to relocate to a HUB, they may just offer you a package. I was asked to relocate, with a relocation package, BUT, you have to prove you have a “local” address. I considered staying in an extended stay and then driving back home for my 2 days WFH, until I read that clause. I have found another job and I am free of that toxic culture.
What really su-ks is the so many unknowns and the fact that no 2 employees are treated the same in the corporate downsizing a/k/a the HUB strategy.

you would have to be > 40mi from the new location to even be considered for relocation and would need to work with your leadership to see if they would allow you to commute.

They very much do care how far you live from where you'd commute. Otherwise you wouldn't be getting laid off, you'd just get informed that your work location has changed to (insert location here). The vast majority of employees laid off due to "location strategy" are not given the option to relocate or change offices, even if it's within reasonable commute range (Winston Salem to Charlotte, for example).

This is how you know it's all a charade and location is irrelevant.

Yes, if they offer you a relocation to a specific building how you get there is up to you. They don't really care if you move or commute as long as you are in the building the required number of days. As some else noted, this only applies if you get an offer to relocate.

I commuted 3 hrs a day for six months, then moved to the hub.

If offered relocation this is an option. In my case the option was commute, move or get the h*ll out.

Yes, you can opt to commute instead of relocating but you have to be offered the option to relocate.

You can try to convert to a remote role or Else commute to the nearest location. Former allows the bank to cut costs right away but still need to be offered to you on a case by case basis.
