Performance metrics gone wrong

Performance metrics are supposed to highlight who’s excelling and who’s falling behind. But at Honeywell, they’ve twisted the whole concept. Instead of rewarding top performers, it’s become a sneaky way to target employees and push them onto PIPs. It’s not about recognizing talent, but about exploiting a system to quietly force people out, regardless of how well they actually perform.

In some states, it's a felony to target someone, or their character, that results in damages. In this case wages or a job. Research it, have your ducks in a row. It's amazing when you push back what can happen.

Two years ago on this forum it was explained by an axed manager about the "PIP" system. In down times they were ordered to put 15% of their direct reports on a PIP. If they refused a director level manager picked the candidates. None of it was based on performance rather you pay/seniority level, the higher the pay the more chance you have of making onto that list. There was another term used to describe the PIP system, the folks placed on the PIP was in the "Elbow". Personally the third manager over my department in ~ 5 months had targeted me by trying to throw shade on the way I operated. I did explain that I was merely doing what I had always done the way I was last directed to perform it and my past reviews proved that. If they wanted to change anything just to let me know their wishes. Well that did not happen and the clown show began. I knew what was coming and defended myself vehemently until I was "laid off" due to poor sales, what a relief!! BTW they kept non degreed folks and those at the lower end of the pay scale

When it comes to PIP'S check your manager is following the correct procedure. Our shop floor manager didn't!! Hence 3 people removed from their PIP and rumour had it he was then on a PIP.

OP, I wonder how many people have been put on PIP as your post says for no reason. Ill start 2023 39 years in and was put on PIP no good reason how come? But guessing I was up for the rotation for it.
