Severence Packages?

Speaking broadly, is it best to accept the severance package if offered, or decline signing and fight it for more?

Severance is calculated based on years of service, with different levels receiving varying amounts. For example, employees at levels 3-4 typically receive 3 weeks of severance per year of service, while level 5 employees receive 4 weeks per year, and so forth. The more senior the position, the greater the severance package.

The maximum severance payout is capped at 104 weeks (2 years). This limit is firm, and no additional severance will be provided beyond this cap. The structure aligns with established legal precedents and Cenovus's consistent practices. Therefore, pursuing legal action to challenge these terms is unlikely to yield any additional benefit. Cenovus has a strong track record of adhering to its precedents, ensuring fairness and consistency.

In many cases, Cenovus also provides a pro-rated bonus as part of the severance package. While this is not a requirement, it serves as an additional gesture of goodwill. Investing in legal advice to dispute severance terms is typically unnecessary and unlikely to result in any additional compensation.

Well if your severance after 7 years is $5000, and an offer to give you reference letter, does it matter !?

They don’t negotiate them. You accept it and sign off (unless you are taking legal action against them) or you risk getting nothing.
