Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I am a “NVW” worker for the last year and just received notice from my boss they will be requesting I move to Dallas by June 2025.

Anyone else hear something similar? I’m freaking out.

Nobody at the company is indispensable, everyone is (and should be) a target including the esteemed Leadership team.

As many folks that are remote know and have heard, Dallas is a VERY expensive city. Houses within 1 hour of Downtown office are a MIN of $600-$800k. Areas with great schools like Frisco, Prosper, Celina, Rockhaul, are even MORE....

While pay has gone up a bit, interest rates are double at close to 7%... making housing affordability that much more difficult.

I hope the remote folks think thru ALL of these OPTIONS. If I had a house with a LOW interest rate, I would NOT sell... keep it and rent. Rent something HERE for a bit and see how things go. Just because you move doesn't mean you are safe... I've had a BOSS every 1-2 years here... so you can get bent over really quickly.

Good luck all..

Stanky is doing the same he is just pumping RTO for personal gain without any form of leadership or innovation

I’m here to make money not friends.
I stopped caring what was good for the shareholders when Stankey made it clear the company didn’t care about what was good for me or my family.
I quickly realized my goal was to utilize the time I had left here to pull as much money and resources from the company as I could.
Therefore I made moves to push for connection awards, bonuses, raises, etc under the guise that I’d move.
That has worked out well for me and added significant additional income as my boss tries to retain me.
I deliver a lot of value but I’m not moving unless paid to do so, if June comes a long and they want to provide me with a sufficient relocation package to motivate me to move and do 5 day RTO I may consider it.
Otherwise I’m taking my bonuses, stock, and skills and going elsewhere.
So long and thanks for all the fish motberfu-kers.

“You should be ashamed of yourself!”

It’s us against them, Stankey made that clear.
Whose side are you on?

You’re playing for the wrong team.

“You should be ashamed of yourself!”

Why?
Who does it hurt?
Stankey? The shareholders?
They don’t care about what’s good for me or my family.

I lied about moving, got a $12k connection award a month or so ago, gonna get a raise and bonus in March gonna collect that extra income.
Keep collecting T stock, grants, selling all that for cash.
Gonna push for severance in March saying I can’t move unless they give me a package or something, they will likely say no and I’ll say lay me off then.
If they say no I’ll just resign.
Goal is to pull as much money and resources for myself from the company as possible.

They wanna play hardball, let’s play motherf----rs.

I deeply considered saying I would move too in order to reach a specific milestone.

You don’t owe this company anything after how they are treating us with such disregard. If it’s financially better for you to say you’re moving and you don’t - that’s GREAT! Absolutely zero shame for doing what is in your best interests. T is only doing what is best for theirs.

“happened to me this time last year, they knew i was lying about moving to Dallas lol...oh well, let me tell you LIFE HAS BEEN GREAT!! I've made more $$ in the market and actually have more now than when i was laid off a year ago and i paid cash for a house. Retired baby!! Thanks AT&T!”

Congrats.
I hope they lay me off sometime next year too before the move date, that would be the ultimate W.
Lie about moving, work til June or so, get severance anyways.
Maybe I can start pushing in April/May that I need a package to move or an extension and push my boss to just put me on the layoff list.
Pulling more money from T is always a W, trying to make this cost them as much as possible.

“I’ve been remote for 18 years and told to move 3/31 or be laid off in December. My last day is Friday and after everything I’m seeing, I’m happy with my decision not to move. This isn’t your loss, this is theirs.”

It’s for the best, I feel genuinely sorry for the people staying. I lied about moving and am WFH til June then I’ll probably just leave with all the 5 day RTO nonsense going on.
I’m not moving out of pocket and commuting to downtown Dallas 5 days a week for T - not happening not worth it.

Imagine downvoting someone advising that a remote worker lie about moving, keep working remotely, and take 6 months of pay, insurance, stock match, and potential bonuses - vs 1-2 months of severance.

Why are you looking out for a multibillion dollar corporation?

“Not "quit". Do not quit. If you have no intentions to move, say so directly and clearly. What will come next? They will lay you off, with severance.”

Oh boy, a month of severance with no stock or insurance vs 6 months of easy pay, with stock, and insurance…wonder which one is the right choice to the company trying to fu-k you over?

Lots of us lied about moving so we can pick up stock, pay, insurance, bonus, etc til June.
Depends how much severance you have.

Just an idea, you won’t get severance but you can just time your resignation near June, or get another job and work them both (doubling pay) especially since you’re remote.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Yes. 4 of my coworkers (maybe more) in our team have been notified verbally. They will get the letter by end of January 2025. Basically move or quit. They said our manager mentioned that their last day would be March 2025 though. At least you have some time to find another job if your last day is June. Don’t give up. There’s life outside AT&T and they are not the only org that’s paying well with great benefits. By the way, we are in NPE or Network Planning & Engineering department.
