Ok, we will comply and do our 5days in office (and likely put in some hours at home). Does anyone have credible knowledge on when the LAN is pinged to show we are on? Not trying to short the day, but if I need to make a customer meeting and take my laptop, will they still give credit for being there? These are the games they are making Mangers play. Not credit for a job well done, just credit for time on LAN. I just want to know the parameters so that I can ensure I comply. Glad I have my Masters!

For non-exempt managers, I wonder if working 8+ hrs but only claiming 8 on their time reports becomes an issue. People regularly spend 8hrs in the office and another 4-5hrs working from home. The RTO report does show both activities separately. Sounds like possible FLSA nightmare for the company and the employees.
They don't need to ping your laptop. They collect all sorts of information on your laptop like when you power it up. When you log in, when you log off, what software is installed, and even when you turn it off. That laptop is assigned to you in asset management and everything done with it is tagged to your name. The network is scanned and the mac address of every computer is logged. The DHCP sever logs the IP address your computer was using. The firewall tracks your usage by your login.
“HR here, they ping at 10-12-3 right now. After Jan will be adding 5 as well to ensure folks are not leaving early. If you need to visit a client, suggest your team uses Moose calendar for tracking until they add a notes section to the presence reporting.”
This comment was deleted which leads me to believe it’s most likely true and they don’t want it seen to avoid having people figure out ways to bypass.
Lots of other comments about frequency of pings were also deleted.
Interesting.
Someone asked about what did you all do before RTO? Just do that. Some of us were RTOing only once a week or none at all. This was before Covid too. In fact when I joined AT&T none of my co-workers were at the office, even those who lived literally 10 minutes away! It took me a while to get used to it. Some managers were different and needed to have everyone around to feel important. But it was at the discretion of manager and not the CTO or CEO!

I arrive and am plugged in just before 6AM. I am not there at 3. And I dang sure ain’t there at 5.
"I explained all this stuff to my sister in law , a Sr VP of Human Resources at a Fortune 20 company. Her response to all this monitoring and tracking was a blunt “Are you f’ing kidding me?"
What a delicate flower you have for a sister in law. Did she use the spitoon just prior to her scholarly retort?

That sounds about right. If your computer goes to sleep you miss a ping and you get docked the hours. Ask me how I know. I ended up on the naughty list even though I’m doing my time. Actually I’m doing way more than my time. So I started tracking my own hours and documenting everything down to the minute. Needless the say, I’ve found I’m giving way more than I should.
How does ATT define this and where is it written/located?
You’re literally asking what 5 day rto means? Ask your VP you’ll probably get severance.
"The parameters are 5 full days in the office."
How does ATT define this and where is it written/located?
“If your SIL regularly read these boards and heard what employees are doing and recommending, she would have a better understanding of the necessity for detailed employee tracking.”
The day they told me to move over 1000 miles out of pocket with no guarantee of employment afterwards was the day I decided I’d do anything to fu-k over the company.
Lying about moving, FOW, working from home while all this nonsense goes on, getting connection awards, selling your precious stock, stacking tens of thousands - thanks.
Gonna keep it up, fu-k Stankey, and you.
“If your SIL regularly read these boards and heard what employees are doing and recommending, she would have a better understanding of the necessity for detailed employee tracking.”
We’re doing these things because of what the company is doing, and how Stankey and co treat employees.
It’s respect, trust, and loyalty are a two way street.
Sheep who are desperate for any scrap from the executive class don’t understand that.
“Clearly they have zero respect for their employees” She was disgusted and said the only thing her company does , which has a mix of hybrid (3 days in office) and full time 5 days, is badge swipes.”

You can force a ping by connecting and disconnecting. If you want to leave at 4, just connect and disconnect at 4pm and leave at 4:01. They won’t be pinging at 5pm, that’s bull$hit.
I explained all this stuff to my sister in law , a Sr VP of Human Resources at a Fortune 20 company. Her response to all this monitoring and tracking was a blunt “Are you f’ing kidding me? Clearly they have zero respect for their employees” She was disgusted and said the only thing her company does , which has a mix of hybrid (3 days in office) and full time 5 days, is badge swipes. They have enough confidence and trust in their employees that they are doing their jobs. Her view was it wreaks of mistrust and arrogance coming from the CEO. Man, she got all that right.

Pinging at 5 p is worthless. Many employees show up between 7:30 and leave between 3:30-4:30 as a result. Employees who are considered market support today often leave the office for hours at time for a site, construction or field visit. They are off network at that time as well.
A few months ago the situation was as follows:
Hardwire recorded hourly.
WiFi recorded less often and is not consistent.
Apple products not recorded.
Whenever I am at a cube I hardwire part of the day and then disconnect and got to wifi.
Your computer pings the network once an hour at what is essentially a random interval. There's no way to no exactly when it will be within any given hour.
Your COU pings the network about every five minutes.
Work your shift and leave. What did you do before WFO was an option? Just do that !
5 days in office here for over a year. Have never used the wired lan. We always use the office wireless network and VPN. Nothing has ever been said to us.
Ask your manager. Do it on email. Get his response on email.
Everything in writing. The company has been hijacked and is rigged against good employees.
The Stink is a POS for what he has done.
Half days don’t show on the report.
The parameters are 5 full days in the office. If you are doing something that doesn't get counted as productivity or negatively affects your metrics (working at night and not coming in the next day, working more than 8 hours a day, being flexible when you are no longer a flex worker), why would you continue to do it?
You are no longer a flex worker come January 6th, don't work like one any more. The game they are playing is designed for you to lose. That is exactly what they want so they can fire you.
My director showed me their report and there’s no lan time on it. (Yet of course).
The daily reports update every 3 hours if you are on the AT&T network.
