Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T leave me alone

I didn’t relocate to Dallas and was let go earlier this year, in February, to pursue opportunities elsewhere. At the time, I told my wife that AT&T would likely want to bring people back, but under different circumstances—lower pay and on a contract basis.

A few days ago, I found this email in my personal inbox. It seems like AT&T is testing the waters to gauge how many former employees might be willing to return, likely to determine appropriate pay levels and the availability of experienced professionals before deciding how to proceed.

Either way, I thought I’d share this with you all:
"Hello,

Hope you're doing well. We are reaching out to reconnect with former AT&T managers like yourself to gauge your interest in potentially rejoining us as a contracted worker, should the need for short-term technician support arise in the future.

Your skills and dedication greatly contributed to our success, and we would love to know if you would be open to exploring contract opportunities with us down the line. Your skills and commitment have always driven our success, and we’re committed to recognizing your efforts with competitive compensation.

If you might be interested in being contacted about potential future opportunities, please take a moment to complete this short form.

Thank you for considering this possibility. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
AT&T Field Operations"

They have let go so many Managers that they probably don't have enough managers left to cover another strike like the last one. If you want $80 bucks an hour and don't mind crossing the picket lines go for it. Don't really need to know what your doing either just pretend .. LOL

That's funny because I, with a recently "expired" CP assignment for D9 employee, got a "survey" a few weeks ago asking my interest about "helping people" and "do I enjoy helping people when they have problems with their computer?", etc. It definitely sounded like they were trolling for volunteers for future strike duty. Of course, I said "no" to every single question.

It does sound like AT&T is trying to determine if there is a better way to fill strike duty than their conscription of managers.

"Another bargained contract is going to expire soon. They are trying to cover their bases now that D3 SE had a month long strike not long ago."

Having been assigned a SE job. I can attest it didn't go well. Chances are, looking for more people.

Fat chance I would come back. I am sure my final words to management will not be forgiveness. Felt so good.

Post ID: @oqx+1vYQU2k4 asks: "why would anyone come back as a contractor? "

I agree with the sentiment, but the truth is that many, many (think THOUSANDS) retired management employees that were productive have been contracted back for many years. Since they are now contractors they do not receive any employee benefits such as paid vacation, health care plan, 401k, paid sick leave, etc.... BUT, they do get paid ALMOST TWICE the actual money they were making as an employee since the company no longer has a high benefit overhead for them.

Mind you, these are all people that were extremely productive and knowledgeable, no "collabortion"(hand-holding) needed. Very experienced and know the overall business.

Almost none of these true experts or hard working people still around so you might not fare so well in the pay department but there are reasons.......

T is about T and nobody else. This is where the company failed and continues to fail. It is never about the company and ALWAYS about the customer.

Now employees and customers alike hate AT&T.

Great job Stink. What a champ.

“rejoining us as a contracted worker, should the need for short-term technician support arise in the future.”

It even states directly in the email this is only a short term opportunity.

"This is a strike contingency job. Only if D6 goes on strike and only during that strike. You’d be outside doing technician work for a couple weeks at best."

  1. It's laughable some managers are in here posting like they would be wanted back.

How about a big FU in response? They kick you to the curb then ask if you want to come back?

I received the same email. I said "No!". At&t decided that my knowledge and skills were no longer needed. No force on heaven or earth will get me to return as a contract technician. Sit on it and rotate At&t. I am happy making more money where I am currently employed. I also have my own office with a window view.

Everyone always thinks they are special and apart of something. Reality finally bites. Sorry you lost your job, but understand this and I hope everyone else catches on, you are not special to this company. You are special to your family and your loved ones. Never willingly give up your family time for this place. You will end up regretting it. Everyone I know in the end always says the same thing, I wish I would have worked less and spent more time with my family.

I was laid off today and my job posted at a lower level in Dallas. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Knowing that I was escorted out the door today after dedicating a major part of my life to this company, the finality of it and the understanding that I am and never was important to them, why would anyone come back as a contractor? I was for decades part of something, or so I believed I was, now I am not. Then I was working towards the goals of leadership which were mine at the time also; being gone less than 12 hours I would find it hard to come to work as a temporary and give it my all like nothing ever happened.
I remember when Randal was the fearless leader and the pre 2020 mandatory programs we watched, he once said that each of us (he was referring to the people watching the show) were "individual contributors consuming resources and office space in real time" I think this was around 2012 or so.
One other memory I have is a town hall and that one clown shoe Sambar said that do not go to the lay off . com, it is a toxic and hateful place and will make you feel bad; funny thing is I think he was projecting his feelings.
Take care

Not really surprised, this is what RTO has always been about - attrition.
If it wasn’t they wouldn’t be willing to rehire the remote workers as contractors at a lower cost.

It has nothing to do with collaboration.
