Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Thank You RTO

Laptop and Emails closing down early and not opening back up until Monday Morning.
What a feeling it is to not care about this place or the tool sheds that run it.
I have deadlines to be sure, but this guy right here will not be working on MY time.
Just because something is deemed important and due in five business days no longer means it is possible.
If my calculations are correct, 40 hours minus 5 for lunch, minus 15 for scheduled meetings = 20 hours remaining. I can no longer turn around a 40 hour task within 20 hours.
No more multi-tasking during meetings either. As leadership says, if you are not speaking on a call you are unproductive and considered idle. Got it.
Thank you RTO. You have made my life so much simpler now.

I was part of Wave 1. Weird that I have more freedom and flexibility in my new job than I did fully remote at AT&T. Ask to be part of the next wave and jump ship now.

The Stank points to a spot on the map and demands "you work from here".
Ok, per your mandate, that's where I'll work. Oh, by the way, that's the ONLY place I'll be working. I'll show up, do my 8hrs, then leave.
Never shall the laptop be turned on outside of that location.

Very well said.
Since we are told that all work outside the office doesn’t count then what do tweedle dee and tweedle dum want us to do after hours? I’m not going to be flagged for using the LAN. They might sc--w up the data and somehow misinterpret it. I don’t trust them.

"Sit down, Karen. We know this wasn’t happening."

What's this "we" sh!+ Kemosahbee? It definitely was happening. Many of the employees with kids in school were getting online right after the kids were out of the house and not getting offline until the kids got home. For me, that meant I was online from 7am until about 6pm, excluding lunch. Lunch was often only 30 minutes since I would not leave the house. I still have kids in school so I am in the house until they leave or before they come home. That hour commute to get to the office came out of my desk time for AT&T, and I definitely take a full lunch hour now. So, that is 10-20 hours a week that AT&T lost.
It is unfortunate that a small portion of the workforce chose to abuse the privilege, but those employees should be terminated. Stankey is effectively "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". However, that is really what Stankey wants . . . to reduce the number of employees. Since he does not know how to grow revenue (he has not grown revenue with any company he has run), he has to cut expenses.
$40B in capex spent since January 2023 and YoY declines in revenue.

Lunch is NOT part of your 40 hours. Lunches are not compensable (with a very few exceptions. ) That's per federal law. And an hour? Most people I know only take the 30 required if they can. An hour is when you got errands to run.

Congrats Boomer! You've now ki-led the extra 10-15+ hours of productivity per week that you were previously getting out of most people because they didn't have to commute 2-3hrs round trip per day.

Just like your "Buy High, Sell Low" mentality on buying other companies, you can add RTO to the ever growing list of your failures.

“Love it, bring back desktops!”
For managers, driving in to meet expected after hours needs during an emergency will be a little rough. But you do you.

Fyi- the 5 hours you quote for lunch is on YOUR time. You are not paid for your one hour lunch. 40 hours is total WORK hours you should work weekly. But, nice try!

Should post this info on Viva Engage so everyone else knows and not just the handful who happen to find this site by being personally affected.

At the end of the day you'll either work as required, quit, or pay the price on a personal level.

I have heard this from multiple employees already.

There were lawsuits won in California for having exempt employees work mandatory hours and the employees won.

They are now “hourly “ management.

The consensus is, if 5 days is back and we have to be in office for 40 hours then they want to get PC cable locks back at the desk and leave the PC signed in on the WIFI or LAN.

In the new world of the company flexing its “power” the employees will make sure they stop answering after hours and weekends.

Just wait for the day everyone is in office and the internet fails. The company will say you need to go home and get back online.

Sorry it’s a give and take!

And we are just tired of the company always TAKING.

I guess they want me to turn my laptop on when I get home but I just don't feel the need to even go through that much effort for them.

Perhaps I'll order a desktop at my next lease roll and see what they expect me to do with it and the end of the day.
