AT&T Employees failing to report to assigned location

Should AT&T employees refusing to report to their assigned work location receive severance pay, or instead be terminated outright with loss of all benefits?

“The major service outages and data breaches are less a mystery now. Your company has a serious internal staffing problem.”

Why do you think that is?

"Company does unethical thing and sets the example so the assertive employees with ba--s do unethical things too because the company is setting the example"

Pathetic attempt to portray themselves as heroes to justify their own admittedly unethical actions?

Don't even wait. Walk them out the door.

“@1und+1vcgVXmI, I am beginning to think results from previous surveys contributed to the decision to close down some of the locations. I'm critical of many of the things AT&T does, but a lot of these commentors are bottom of the barrel. It doesn't matter to me how they go, but they must go. Of that I am certain. Freaking cancers.”

Said by some boomer that obviously doesn’t know anyone who isn’t bottom of the barrel and the mentality they have, or knows young people that work in tech.
Young people aren’t loyal to the corporation anymore because they see that the companies aren’t loyal to the employee.

If you think the attitudes of the people here are a problem, then maybe you’re out of touch with culture of the talent Stankey is trying to attract.

I’ve made some of these comments, I’ve gotten multiple connection awards, an extension for RTO, and the company is bending over backwards to try and retain me due to the quality of my work but I’m not staying.
How old are you?
40’s, 50’s, 60’s?
Maybe you don’t know what you’re talking about, did you ever consider that?

“Based on some of these comments I think AT&T is doing the right thing for once by getting rid of them. Sooner would be better. To answer the OP's question, definitely terminate for cause.”

Why?
Because people stop being loyal and start being hostile when you try and fu-k them over?
Imagine that.

Two different flavors here:

  1. People that are asked to relocate and then subsequently don't. or
  2. People who don't have to relocate but still work from their local CO instead of commuting to the office they're assigned too in phone.

My location falls into the second bucket. I have two coworkers I have never seen in our building: ever. They just go to their local CO's instead. So even if I wanted to collaborate, I couldn't. yet I keep going in like an id--t.

Oh looks it’s Stankey calling everyone brainiacs while he doesn’t understand what’s going on or what the adults are even discussing.
Reminds me of that time he said the market “didn’t understand T’s value” when in reality it was him who just didn’t understand the market, go figure.

The jester never ceases to make me giggle.

True brainiacs in here.

How are they going to know you’re not in a hub? Because your supervisor or an adjacent supervisor doesn’t SEE you with their eyes or see that your badge was swiped.

It’s not rocket science to know someone isn’t where they are supposed to be.

Best I can tell you is take a Time Machine back to the early 2000’s. That’s the era PJ Stanks has put us in right now.

What ever shall I do if you fire me on the date I’m going to resign anyways.
I’m absolutely terrified while I sit here selling the T stock in my RSU’s as they vest due to the extra time I’m granted due to lying.

Let me wipe my eyes with these $100 bills really quick brb.

Cheaters gonna cheat, liars gonna lie. Malformed personal values. No shame. Fire them. None of those losers boasting on this forum have any any other options open to them.

I took my pension, my severance and my 401k

Are the employees who refuse RTO getting severance?

I'll tell you how it is here in D9 for union employees:

If it's commutable and the member doesn't report to the new work location it's considered voluntary resignation without severance.

If it's non-commutable the member can report to the new location or be considered surplus and go through the surplus process which may include severance pay.

Non-commutable = 20 miles or more from the employee's residence to work location.

That's how it should work everywhere with management or non-management but we all know the "leadership" considers managers second class citizens with how they're treating them.

God forbid, an employee making a small fraction of what Stankey makes looks out for themselves and gets what’s theirs before they leave.

Oh no! The Horror!

You should never compromise your integrity, especially for this company. It's understandable to want to stick it to them because it's blatantly obvious they could care less about you. I took my pension, my severance and my 401k and haven't looked back. Don't lower yourself to the likes of the stooges ruining this company.

Personally I just told them I’ll move, and asked for an extension (which was granted), but I’m not moving… now I do the bare minimum and collect my same pay in full along with the stock/benefits. Best part is I’m FOW now so I don’t even have to RTO anymore. I just WFH everyday now, and will for the next 18 months.

I chose to prioritize myself, and now I have over a year to search for a new job while still getting paid and not doing RTO. Anyone who does anything different is not smart.

"continue to have access to AT&T resources and the ability to cause deliberate damage"

Exactly!! Wild gamble to tell employees months in advance they will be released.

It has been disappointing to learn of so many willing to deceive and cheat the company and then try to justify their actions to appear less dishonorable. RTO aside, a number of my peers have acknowledged being uncomfortable with these character flaws having been revealed. Most in our group are in agreement their lack of integrity is justification to be fired without benefit.

I had a coworker fired and walked out the door when the known relocation date came and it became clear no action had been taken to move.

Lose it all. I thought it unusual for the company to create a long term scenario where the people facing relocation would continue to have access to AT&T resources and the ability to cause deliberate damage.

“Anyone who supports an action like RTO which indiscriminately and unfairly targets employees for no other than where they live is a true D bag. GFYMYPOS”

I wouldn’t worry about it, most all of us who were told to move lied and are collecting an extra 6-8 months of pay, stock, bonus, etc vs 2 months of severance and no stock match.
It’s why the move numbers look so good.
We also get to stay FOW in the meantime and skip the office.

It isn’t so bad.

Employees who stated they would move and lied or changed their mind have been and will continue to be terminated for cause. They would often have been gone in just 2 weeks if indicating they had chosen not to relocate. Employees who end up not moving received compensation for still working full-time which they wouldn’t have if being honest.

The company doesn't want them, and they don't to be here. Give them a severance but finalize it before Christmas. Waiting so long for the other shoe to drop is destroying morale.

They should lose everything if they are refusing or lying about their intentions with an expectation of being rewarded. No pity for those. Time to move on.
