Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What’s wrong with the culture?

Stankey and others keep saying it’s lack of young talent.
Do you think the current actions of the company are attracting young talent or running it away?
Do you think young people are being retained by recent actions?
I graduated TDP 2 years ago and I’ll tell you most of everyone I graduated with is gone.
Most of the new TDP are looking to leave before they even graduate the program.

Do you think young people are looking to work for an under-paying 5 day RTO dinosaur and move to Dallas to work for a company that habitually lays large contingents of the employee base off?

AT&T is on full track of outsourcing overseas. Period. No jobs in the US are worth your time.

There is NO way this company will keep younger talent if they move to 5 days - esp in Dallas office which is NOT convenient to anyone except da bosses who live in HP. If you are under 40, get out now

Take this Post as an example. 19 responses and 725 views before mine. 19/140,000 whining on an anonymous forum is what is wrong with your culture.

Young people don't want to smell old workers' diapers.

Young talent. Inexperienced. You mean like a fry guy. The guy with nothing to offer so he gets assigned the easy job, the one that is the most difficult to sc--w up. Yeah, that's exactly what the company needs more of. We can even advance him more rapidly than his experience warrants. How'd that be for ya?

I am in my 30s, not exactly that young, but I got 2 degrees under my belt. Things started to go bad here in 2015 and I took the opportunities to study while working. This 5 days RTO will surely drive someone like me away, although, possibly, I am not the target, but I guess they did not really think this through. I am going to take a paycut just to get flexibility. My message to Stankey and the BOD - think of the people who worked your disaster recovery night/day, and all over the weekend during the one of the biggest storm US has encountered, and this is how you pay them. There will not be a next time.

The lack of talent is in the executive offices and BOD.

As far as I knew TDP in these years are all gone. This is not the place for young person. It will hurt the career for long run. Not only T, intel and Boeing are similar as well.

College hires aren’t going to stay in this environment so the company is getting rid of talent, and replacing it with younger talent that has a 2-3 year shelf life in most cases due to the poor choices of management.

The layoffs are to make space for college hires. Layoffs were happening when I was a college hire decades ago. Now it’s my turn to rollover, it seems.

In Oakton I’ve seen several going away cupcake parties and it’s the 30 something yo member of the team that is leaving bringing the cupcakes for the 50 something team members that are staying. In 10 year T will be a case study in business school on how to drive away talent.

The dark triad is a psychological theory of personality, first published by Delroy L. Paulhus and Kevin M. Williams in 2002,[1] that describes three notably offensive, but non-pathological personality types: Machiavellianism, sub-clinical narcissism, and sub-clinical psychopathy.[2][3][4][5] Each of these personality types is called dark because each is considered to contain malevolent qualities.[2][6][7][8]

Illustration of the triad
All three dark triad traits are conceptually distinct although empirical evidence shows them to be overlapping. They are associated with a callous–manipulative interpersonal style.[9]

Narcissism is characterized by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy.[10]
Machiavellianism is characterized by the manipulation and exploitation of others, indifference to morality, lack of empathy, and a calculated focus on self-interest.[11]
Psychopathy is characterized by continuous antisocial behavior, impulsivity, selfishness, callous and unemotional traits (CU),[12] and remorselessness.[13]
High scores in these traits have been found to statistically increase a person's likelihood to commit crimes, cause social distress, and create severe problems for organizations, especially if they are in leadership positions.[14]

It's definitely not the young culture, I've been here at AT&T for 2 years right out of college and its honestly the culture and how our leadership team is. They care about the useless things that aren't helping the company at all. Our policies and beliefs are so traditional and old - no one is able to go up the rankings without networking or being teachers pet (this is coming from someone who is doing that right now to even get elsewhere in the company). I know all of my team who is young has left and is in a much happier place, I know it su-ks having to wait and pretending to be happy when you want nothing to do with this place.

Stay strong my friend, fix your resume, keep that fake smile up and apply to other positions next year.

Imagine how limited recruitment is when resigned to two cities and the third world. I struggled to get qualified candidates in a large metro area for a few positions.

There are better opportunities for good talent. AT&T isn't where you want to be. Not under this leadership clown show.

This culture absolutely will not attract young talent with the skillset they are looking for. When I drive home from the office 5 days a week, I am still commuting, and they are already walking their kids in their wagons with the dog down to the local microbrewery. They love to live where they work.

At&t wants to attract you g talent with old, outdated policies and low salaries. They bring recruits in as interns just because they have a Master’s degree - even if it is unrelated to our industry- then they promise them opportunity, only to discontinue the program and leave them hanging.

They layoff US workers for not being in a hub, only to outsource the jobs to India, where they are working remotely.

There is are no pensions for new employees, no flexibility, no on site freebies at most locations - only LARGE office buildings.

Yeah, that sounds real attractive.

“People are trapped here because retiree healthcare has been revoked. If you are asked to move then maybe retire. Otherwise RTO is better than losing medical.”

You’re staying for healthcare? You’re a cheap ba----d. You voted for Obamacare, now go enjoy it.

RTO is to make the older crowd uncomfortable so they will leave. They still probably won't.

You’re right.

The reason is because we have the worst leadership in all of corporate America.

Who can destroy a monopoly?

It takes the worst of the worst to destroy something like that.

Short answer: no

Only people sticking around are those with a pension waiting to be eligible or those eligible and waiting for the mythical package to leave.
