Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Using AT&T insurance even after new job

If I get laid off, and get a new job in a month.. can I continue using insurance from AT&T until it runs out then switch to the new company's insurance?

Yes you can. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for the paperwork to catch up. You can use it until then.

Why are you asking a bunch of random internet people instead of calling HR Onestop for your specific circumstance?

after layoff, you pay through att's external HR site, monthly out of pocket. whatever your premium is now, you pay that. after 6 months, the cost changes to something unaffordable.

Why on earth wouldn’t you switch to a better plan than T’s ASAP?

you have until the end of the month in the month that you separate; unless you are offered a severance package with 6 months of continued medical coverage. After 6 months, you would pay 100% of the monthly premium costs unless you cancel the plan with 30 days notice.

If you are laid off and eligible for severance, you get 6 months of insurance at your current rate. I would probably start on the new company insurance when you're eligible and stop the ATT insurance. It would be a pain to not enroll at the new company and have to enroll 4 months later and prove life change.

If you get laid off, you can purchase subsidized health insurance for whatever months you qualify. For me it’s 6 months after layoff. You pay the same as would come out of your check monthly. Make sure you cancel before the time is up,
