Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Protracted relo anxiety

I understand that relocation will continue into next year. I’m not among those noticed already, but I expect to be at some point. I just wish I’m done with making that decision and can move on. I do not have dependents, so the decision is just on me. While I’m quite flexible, I also do not believe it makes much sense as any of us can be laid off soon after we relocate. What has your experience been or based on what you made the decision to relocate or not?

you should only relocate if the place you would relocate to is someplace you'd like to live, and has better job prospects for you other than WF. Some people welcome the paid relo to get out of a cold climate, move to a big city, move away from a big city, move closer to a spouse's family, etc and the fact that you could still get laid off in the future doesn't really matter

just don't relo because you think it's a sure way to stay employed by WF.

Most CSBB seems to be getting the offer to relocate if not in a core city. Majority aren’t taking it. For Ops, most are NOT being offered the move. For Technologies, some are being offered but not all. This based on my relationships with those groups.

I wouldn’t move unless I hated my city or couldn’t afford it.

Hi! I had the choice to relo this year, thought about moving to SF, and chose severance. A few months after that decision, half my SFO team got laid off. ☹️. I eventually made it through my 60 days working notice and now I’m taking a few mental health months before I make my next decision.

Bottom line IMHO, do not relo and hang in there until you make it to severance. It’s glorious on the other side. The Chase-ification of Wells Fargo has made this corporation toxic beyond anything I have ever experienced. I am so relieved to be out.

My entire LOB was given the option to relocate. It's not common but it happens. With that said, I wouldn't do it or recommend it. I don't trust them enough not to lay me about shortly after.

No, relocation isn't worth it unless you have no ties to your location, don't have any bump in pay to cover the new cost of living, don't have to pay your expenses to move, etc.
Everything needs to check the box as a positive in order to relocate and even then, you are still on the chopping block.
Unless there is something that tips the scale in favor of relo then it isn't woth it.

I'm excited about getting out of WF. I'm bummed it hasn't happened yet.

You may not be given the option to relocate. Not everyone gets the option. It’s hit or miss.

Chance are you will not be offered relocation. Very very few are.

They’d rather just layoff and backfill the job in India.

For the most part, I wouldn't relocate for Wells right now. Too much unknown. Maybe it settles down in 2-3 years.

Also, who's to say you'll get the option? They are very hard to come by these days.

I would never relocate for WF unless you have other reasons.

Just get a different job and/or quit when the deadline comes. Relocating for a company that is actively laying people off seems risky, and you'd just be stuck in the scenario but in a new unknown location
