Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Warning

If you cut my organization further, the result will be a million dollar fines from the FCC.

Doubt me?

The FCC and FirstNet Authority have had enough with this sh-t show of a company. Keep playing games, and see what happens. They’ll have you back before Congress lighting your azz on fire, again.

Keep it up! I promise it will happen and I’m going to come here just to laugh about it.

Stankey - if you are reading this board, if you think cutting and mistreating employees are going to help your cash flow, I'd say yes, SHORT TERM. You are a M…O…R…O…N who absolutely did not think this through, or maybe you did, just did not have the capacity to understand the seriousness of this all. In my dept, (which deals with your disaster effort, your cherries to make you look good on TV, we are the 1st responders). Our SOW is not compatible with the RTO 5 day office because we work nights/weekends and on call most of the time. I assure you, if you capped me at 8hrs in a cubicle, that's where the work is going to be done. If there is another hurricane, fire, snowstorm and you need our team to work nights/weekends. It is going to wait until 8am in a cubicle. We handle the entire US.

Oh just wait till we have to start reporting on Ethernet circuits, which have always been excluded in the past. That's going to increase FCC reporting exponentially and there already aren't enough people to do the current work. FCC reporting comes with a strict timeline. Things go down to the wire now. Then add Ethernet to the mix. All without adding a single soul to assist in the increased workload. They solve what they can through automation and hope for the best. The only way this work gets done is to rob Peter's group to work Paul's FCC filings. It's a vicious cycle and then all work becomes cursory and half-a$$ed. Maybe the guy who always seems to have time to post "first" would like to pitch in?

“FCC fines are irrelevant. Zero effect on tbe bottom line.”

Agreed.
Fines for companies should be a percentage of revenue - that’s the problem with all fines.
Let’s get that changed, so that fines actually have a huge impact on bottom lines.
How about 1% of yearly revenue? You think that will hurt?
5%?

making threats is not a good thing to do.

What threat was made? He's simply pointing out that AT&T is going to FAFO--sure they may meet their numbers and make cluster fu-k hubs, but the actual work is either not getting done, or can't be done without resources, and regulators are going to take them to task.

Yup, after February 22, we are essentially sc--wed with the FCC. And 911 reporting is under a consent degree. The FCC does NOT care went for through layoffs. They tell us what we're a multi bullion dollar company and to hire people domestically. The FCC will not take reporting overseas because they lack jurisdiction over foreign employees. So now the answer domestically is automation, which the FCC will only allow to a limited extent. Ain't life grand?

Some organizations are WAY behind on legally mandated compliance issues which could land the company in VERY hot water.

It will be interesting to see just how far they will push the already irritated workforce.

Play with fire.

That's one of the biggest problems with T. Invest money into a new big program with a bunch of fanfare and NEVER provide the human resources to actually make it function. Then be totally shocked when it doesn't work.
