Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Everyone is leaving

I’m hearing of a mass exodus. So many people contacting me about people leaving the business bc of 5 days RTO. What are you hearing?

If there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that they have no idea what they just did.

The results will be catastrophic for the business. Get ready C suite, instead of worrying about how to reduce headcount your new role will be putting out fires on a daily basis. Enjoy!

I retired a few months ago. I squeezed the company for every last drop. I am so happy to be free from the constant push to go faster. I also switched to Spectrum internet and mobile. 1 gig internet for $50.00 a month and free mobile both for 2 years. Their mobile is awesome. Worked great in Montana went I went skiing too. I retired just before the RTO five days a week. The upper leadership has gone mad. They are all driven by their huge egos.

I think our org may be keeping the people who said "no" to moving for a while. They're starting to tally it up and see that entire programs won't have enough to run them.

180 not 360

360 means heading the same direction you started.

They have said themselves that it’s “young, new talent” they want. I believe they are hoping those close to retirement will walk and they can bring in younger, more malleable minds at a much lower rate. FTO may make that more challenging though, since surveys say the younger gens won’t even consider FTO.

"Why would you wait?"

Right now you are in that period of being very close to receiving your bonus. You might as well wait to see if it is worth waiting until March. I imagine there will be a lot of retirements in late March.

My boss just told me that our entire org has no planned layoffs. Sure, because people are leaving on their own after being tortured. Question is: how does T get impacted in the long run? Employees are customers too and they also have friends and family. Remember, at one time we advocated for T to use our product and services? now turn that to 360, all employees cut and tortured will NOT be promoting T as a company and all its services. T thinks that cutting thousands of employees + torturing them help their cashflow, sure, short term. It is always a short term goal because Stankey and his minions have zero capacity to think long term.

This is what they want and yes, people are leaving. They want people to leave to save on severance pay and so they can hire someone at a 30% pay reduction. Stank and Co and doing everything they can to milk T to it's last penny for their own gain before a buyout or merger happens

Stop whining about having to do your job. When you were hired, did they tell you “you can work from home everyday and only actually do work 5 hours per week”? No they didn’t. Go in and do the job you were hired to do or quit and let someone else that’s not a lazy b-m do the job. Jeez

Absolutely, the shift back to a rigid 5-day RTO policy seems like a misstep, especially when remote work has shown to boost productivity for many. It's a pivotal moment for companies to understand the impact of such decisions on their workforce and overall operations. For those looking to delve deeper into this topic, there's an insightful piece that discusses the "productivity paradox" of AT&T's recent strategy. It sheds light on how such policies might not just affect employee turnover, but also the underlying productivity metrics that companies cherish. Highly recommend reading it to get a broader perspective on the consequences of enforced RTO policies.

“Wrong. Our 2 top performers have updated their resumes and have stated they are shopping as soon as we get the 5 day RTO official mandate.“

Why would you wait? It takes a long time to find something even if you get interviews quickly. Q4 and Q1 are good times to look for jobs.

'Our 2 top performers have updated their resumes and have stated they are shopping as soon as we get the 5 day RTO official mandate.'

People trying to bluff their way into getting bigger raises or connection awards announce that. Those with real skills and contacts move on quickly.

Wrong. Our 2 top performers have updated their resumes and have stated they are shopping as soon as we get the 5 day RTO official mandate.

“ You are forgetting local coworkers at your physical location who are also part of your team”

You mean the people I chat with on Teams even when we are in the office? Jeez. If I want to socialize we can do a team lunch.

The people who are critical to helping get my projects are not and never will be onsite so again, being in the office is little more than a dog and pony show that only hinders productivity. Optics are as important if not more so than numbers to many of these people.

Been underway for like 18 months. Pretty sure they know what they did. They are still in the coarser stages. They will be looking for people like you as they further refine their endgame goal. Sit tight. They will come to you.

I don’t doubt people want to leave and some will but it will be gradual. It’s a sh---y environment to apply to and ultimately get a job. There are jobs out there but the system is pretty broken even compared to 2020 when unemployment was 10% or whatever it was.

I have been applying out and will continue to do so until I get out of here. I would go to a hybrid role if it makes sense and there actually is a reason to be onsite. Here I have little reason to be onsite three days a week much less five - manager and 2nd level are in a different location along with my key contacts.

I also don’t doubt there are a lot of people who will bi--h but because they don’t know anything else but T, will just go along and do nothing.

Is it really possible that att employees can find equitable work with another employer? I'm doubtful that would be a possibility but power to them if they can. And wfh? Not as much of that out there. Especially for people with limited skills.

"This is true. On my team of 10, Seven have already notified me they will be leaving."

A lot of people talk sh*t, but the truth is you would already be gone if you had anywhere to go. You know it, I know it, and the company knows it. Now I know you're butthurt and want to run your mouth some more, but first take some time to research the 600,000 tech positions laid off in the past three years, and then sit your worthless self in your chair and shut up.

I don’t know why people keep comparing 5 days of the past to 5 days now. Your lack of mental understanding is baffling. 5 days in the past the office was centrally located, you sat WITH your team at an assigned desk. 5 days now, you drive past multiple hub offices and forced to go to the furthest one to play the desk lottery and sit amongst people from any and every other facet of the company who have NOTHING in common with what you do. Only to jump on a teams call to meet with your peers and manager.

It’s NOT THE SAME.

It's not bc of the 5 days; it's because of the relocations--at least in my org. Most would stay and do 5 days if they could stay and report to their current office instead of moving to another state and doing 5 days in the new office.

That’s what they want. There’s no other reason to force people back 5 days when they tell us that there isn’t enough room for everyone on a given day.

Every person that leaves without severance makes the stinks bonus grow by .5%
