Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Any VSPers regret leaving or wish they stayed?

I realize the first group just left with more to come . Just wondering if anyone had regrets about choosing to leave or choosing to stay?

Can you go back to Verizon if you took the volunteer package, or are you blacklisted from Verizon and its subsidiaries forever?

I left with the VSP in 2018. I miss the daily interaction with the coworkers, clients and vendors but i am enjoying retirement. I retired at 57 after careful retirement planning. It is nice sitting in the Living Room looking out the bay window at the mountains and watching the snowstorm/blizzard outside while drinking coffee knowing I don't have to go anywhere.....

9/13 last day. No regrets at all! Still waiting for my RSUs though. Seems VZ trying hard to make sure stock price bo--s out before cashing out shares...

I don't have a single regret! I found a higher paying job that allows me more work, life balance. I am no longer tied to a phone. I can take breaks and lunches when I need and if I go over 5 minutes it's no big deal. In fact, there is no penalty if I say I need to take an extended break or lunch. None of the managers micromanage either. I thank Jesus for giving me the courage to take the package instead of staying complacent in my role. I feel bad for the high quality employees that are staying stuck as Verizon slaves because they have been brain washed to think Verizon is the best they can do, and nothing out there is better. This is an absolute lie.

I love my new employer and job. No regrets

Not an iota of regret. Far more peaceful now ! Bye bye to constant reorgs and stress, no growth potential, constant budget squeeze, forced wokeism, loads of hypocrisy all around including in all hands / team meetings, more and more offshoring, offshore competing with onshore, the feeling that if you are onshore you are a burden to the company, no clear direction from leaders, leaders expressing their frustration with thier leaders openly...all in all happy to exit a toxic work environment ! Wish the company turns around and does well after all...I have a lot of Verizon stock that I own....

I got laid off October 26 but was within the VSP window so I'm getting the 3 weeks per year, prorated STI, and RSUs. At first I was devastated and didn't think I would have any job prospects due to the market.

Getting my degree fully paid by Verizon was the best bring I did. I have 3 job offers that I need to decide on, all of which pay more than Verizon. I'm glad I got the severance and I don't miss being overworked at all.

I wish I stayed. I made an outstanding salary but had zero skills. I don’t really like flipping burgers for a living.

Best move I ever made. It’s tough not getting a check every 2 years but also have over a years salary. Enough to carry me over to retirement. Personally I think Verizon was a better place to work now compared to 15 years ago. Definitely didn’t get as much done now, but there was less stress. Upper management was under more pressure trying to get more done from offshore which reduced pressure on the onshore people. I don’t think the results are a good thing for Verizon, but worked out for the onshore workers remaining. Verizon backed themselves into this mess making the decision to go all in on offshore. Good luck Verizon.

I was on a vp conference call with a couple of other managers. someone asked about the rumored vsp and the vp verified the rumor was true. I put the call on mute and exclaimed, there really is a jesus after all!

Zero regrets. I can't believe everybody didn't push the button. I got paid over a year's salary and benefits to leave and am currently enjoying the time off. All upside, zero downside. The greatest career move ever.

i miss the paycheck but not much else. I haven't bothered job searching yet as I'm making more than my salary in stock investments at the moment.

Nope, and I have a second chance to achieve my passion. No more need for anxiety and depression meds and my mental health is 180 different due not dealing with the negative environment my director created for her non favs. I don’t look back and don’t think about my old job and not working fulltime yet but content. .. just come on here to be nosey..

bittersweet; not looking back though. too many org silos cemented in place with no hope of career movement (and some folks like it that way?). so long and thanks for all the fish.

30 yrs starting w MCI. No regrets, thankful through all the years MCI WCOM MCI VZ. The last 15, 5yrs the company really changed and I no longer see a future unfortunately for VZ. Still on break and will find a job in 2025.

@1gqa+1vmA3pDp Just bc we have left doesn’t mean we don’t still care about what is happening at VZ. Many of us have spent 20+ years here so interest in the company, our former coworkers, etc does not vanish once we leave.

None. Best move I ever made for my personal mental health, and relationship with my family. Working for a company in a downward spiral is toxic. Being told to do more with less people, working 60+ hours a week, leaders not listening to what is really happening, and then being told you are not doing enough was unsustainable for me. It’s not the same Verizon of 10 years ago where there was growth potential and ideas on how to do that. Add to that in 2020 during the DEI drive being told how bad you were as a person, and others less qualified should be given opportunities not because they earned it, but because of their race or gender. After decades of service, I was so burnt out, and not functioning anymore.

Zero regrets. I start with my new employer next week. It’s been a great 2 month reset and I’ll end up ahead by six figures. Actually looking forward to going back to work, a feeling I hadn’t felt at VZ in ages.
