GM Surplus

Its interesting that there is a GM surplus (level 3 and above) and we are still hiring Directors with no direct reports. Perfect example was in the coroorate social responsibility org a few days ago. Multiple directors with no employees. These positions along with Director Chief of Staff need to be discontinued. Stankey is cutting folks left and right and we are still adding folks in upper management.

Once u get to GM level for some reason u are protected. Like u said most of these folks are admin managers and add very little value. These folks cant jump to other companies many times as they dont have an expert technical skill. Some AVP liked them or promoted them due to DEI. They need to consolidate level 3-5 reqlly bad.

AD to Principle makes no sense for some who have been in Management for a long time as many are rusty on their technical skills (not all as I am generalizing). I have had some very technical Managers and others who did not have the skill set and were more or less Admin Managers in a tech org. We have so many so called "Expert" new hires in our org who would just run weekly "educational" calls and none were touched in these downgrades while other 3rd levels were were. We also have no clue what they are actually working on but folks suggest they are connected to a 6th level they hired a couple years back who brought them all in, go figure.

If a level 3 drops to a level 2, even with the same salary, they lose stock grants, 7% of bonus and dividends on stock grants. It is a substantial pay cut. Typically, it would be about $70K per year total.

Is a pay cut involved with downgrades or is it really just a title change?

It's a title change but you're further above the median of the new band, so any merit increase is minimal. Your pay rate will remain the same. Your bonus payout will likely decrease depending on band.

AD to principal is a lateral move - from management to technical career path

Director to principal is a downgrade - we have someone in our group who did this to avoid moving to Dallas

Base is unchanged on downgrade. Move to TSR of new title. Bonus % moves to new title. L3 and above downgrades to L2+ result adjustments to future RSUs.
