Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

They are using RTO to get rid of the people

Anyone who is criticizing people upset about forced RTO, or blaming those who “abused” work from home- that is exactly what the corporate higher-ups want you to do. They make up the excuse that it’s due to those who didn’t do what they should at home, instead of handling those people directly. Many teams worked perfectly remotely. They are using this (and increasing days) as a way to get rid of people— but if you want to pretend it’s reasonable, go ahead. Your turn will come, especially if you don’t happen to be in whatever they decide is the location of the moment.

Exactly! @2ztl+1vkBnQfy

Of course they are. People who won’t even come to work should be terminated without a package. No rational adult would assume that s/he could blow off work and not be fired for cause.

Are our millennials really this inexperienced?

This is happening at all of the financial services companies because they are trying to avoid outright layoffs. Most customers don’t care where people are sitting as long as their money is being managed properly.

They’ve been . Thats not new. Employees who were here 25 years got let go because of that garbage requirement . We dont matter to them. They’re bringing in hundreds of analysts with no skills or work ethic and paying them more money to replace us.

No one is forcing you to be an employee - That is 'at-will' definition You are not in chains

Id- iot? Go to the mirror, take your finger out of your bottom put it in your chest and say then say id- iot out loud.
There is no contract here. There is no self selecting to quit. While it is a job ‘requirement’ one must ask - is it a professional , adult, and competetive requirement? Is having a school marm to monitor attendence in declining locations part of making the company better? No. It’s simply a tool to trip people up. And what’s more quiz kid, the vast majority are complying. But does this make it right? What is the true purpose? It is to find ways to eliminate and sc- rew people out of benefits. Same as the forced rankings. The people enforcing that are the worst employees.

@1cgf You're contradicting yourself while also calling everyone id--ts.

There is no contract to honor when you are an at-will employee.

The irony is that the most productive employees are usually the ones that are remote because the ones in the office think it’s social hour.

Here’s the deal on RTO…they actually WANT people not to return to the office to save on unemployment costs. Here’s the thing though - if they don’t get rid of enough “non compliant” folks, then they start laying off for “performance” (which by the way almost always decreases upon returning to the office).

Bottom line - they’re getting of you either way. It may buy you two months, but there’s a pecking order in this place. RTO is one of many things people will look the other way on if they really like you, and if they don’t, complying with their requests isn’t saving your job.
