Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Instead of RTO, why not focus more on securing customer data. You know like my SSN that you allowed to get leaked out.

What a novel idea. Protecting customer data….gee….that’s some trail blazing forward thinking for you.

I’d expect AT&T to be better than a dime a dozen. I guess my expectation was too high to be better than the average.

Data breaches are a dime a dozen anymore. It probably wasn't the first or last time you SS number has been out there. This one is just more public since the leak was posted in full and for free. Every hacker/fraudster who could never afford it before got the freebie.

My SS was compromised years ago by the Equifax breach. Mine and some family supposedly was in this T leak. But when I looked at the leak raw data, the info tied to mine a family member was incorrect. My spouse has subsequently had SS leaked from National Public Data from a background check for a job...in 1994.

All they know how to do is make password requirements and 2FA more infuriating, even though password security has had zero impact on any of the data breaches. They handed our security over to 3rd w0rlders and when everything gets stolen they just punish domestic employees.

Company has spent millions on tracking employees and will not spend any money to fix the terrible applications we have to work with. Some days I amazed that our network just doesn’t collapse on itself.

T doesn’t currently have the needed expertise to properly handle security. Most of the employees I know in CSO moved to that org from other departments and learned on the job. Many don’t posses current industry experience or certifications for the role.

As me as well. ONLY with T was my SSN leaked. Would it have happened eventually anyway with another company? Maybe, maybe not, but with the deep pockets that T has, you’d expect world class top notch security measures including and encompassing various levels and strengths of encryption which they clearly don’t. Apparently the overhead on such thing is not as important as safeguarding customer data. If T counters with “we do have world class security yada”, well apparently not enough to keep a handful of home based hackers from getting in.

I've had my data found on the dark web from other company data breaches, but T was the only time my SSN number was leaked. Still ticks me off. I just hope Stankey's SSN was leaked, too, and somebody finds a way to open a credit card under his number.

Then they outsourced the jobs that have access to our SSPI to third-party companies who all work remotely inside of countries who don’t necessarily care about our security.

T security sux obviously. They should be fined 100$ per individual data breach. ONLY when there is significant monetary loss is when things truly change. Instead of meeting the bare minimal governmental standard, go much farther. Spend billions on fines or a hundreds of millions or so on extra, extra security.

Many companies have experienced significant data breaches in the past two years. Telecom, Finance, and Healthcare are not held appropriately accountable, and are instead treated as if they are "too big to fail" while the consumer pays the price through an increased risk of fraud.

T still tired to sell "security" but can't keep customer data secure. Dynamic Defense with ADI ring a bell? Blow me. Another add on fee from T.

T never takes liability for any outage or security breach. $5 credit for cellular outage that lasted 3 days.

They should turn the corner and secure a board of directors that knows how to select talent. The homegrown crud they produce STINKS (pun intended).
