Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Attention all craft employees;

T is coming for your jobs. Start working on that degree and or top tier Cisco certs. Trust me it has begun, system techs being offered sipp, standby shutdown and OT needs 3rd level approval. Customer contracts are being rewritten on a daily basis. You are about to be in the same boat as management, circling the drain.

Plenty of residential installs, attic crawls and drop replacements for Digital Techs to keep busy. The wire tech pay is low so most go elsewhere.

Cisco certs are useless in the US, as many of those remote jobs are being remoted - from India.

I wouldn't call them useless. Installers need to be able to speak "the same language" when turning the routers up and doing basic provisioning.

Ignore the politics. Cisco certs are useless in the US, as many of those remote jobs are being remoted - from India.

“This is only if Tnis financially solvent. They declare bankruptcy then none of it matters.”

They paid the dividend and free cash flow grew from 16b to 18b so they will not be filing for bankruptcy. Interest rates on the debt are dropping and non union headcount is dropping fast so I think we got it covered. I can’t predict the future but in the past all technician layoffs were voluntary severance payments and went to the senior people.

Thankfully Midwest D4 bargained for employees have up to 88 weeks termination pay starting after 60 days a work group gets declared surplus if we CHOOSE not to take the guaranteed job offer per the contract! Quite an advantageous position to be in if i say so myself!

"I'm not going anywhere other than another close by job for the same guaranteed pay."

This is only if Tnis financially solvent. They declare bankruptcy then none of it matters.

Read that clause.

Give me my ESB. Many of us are waiting for our 53+ weeks of pay + sizeable pension lump sum.

Thanks for the good news, a lot of us would love the extra severance to leave. Hurt my feelings! 😆

Voluntary severance is more like a retirement gift than a layoff. Involuntary is much more expensive than a non union employee.

Welp. Jump on into HR One Stop. Lookup Labor Agreements. Midwest. Then read the job security language. I'm not going anywhere other than another close by job for the same guaranteed pay.
