Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why don't people who say they're going to quit actually do it?

If attrition was higher, there's a chance we'd see fewer layoffs. There are so many people who keep saying they're going to quit but it doesn't seem many - if any - of them are actually going through with it. Why? If you want to quit, just do it. That would be doing a favor to both yourself and those of us who want to stay. What's the point of just repeating you're going to quit but never doing it?

RTO won't make a single 60+ consider leaving without a severance

Exactly... I won't leave without a package but they haven't offered me one yet.

We have been authorized 5 hires at the beginning of 3rd Qtr 2025. There's some strategic 4:1 ratio rule on new hires, so 20 of you fine individuals need to hit the bricks soonest.

There are fewer whiners in the professional roles. Are none of you designated as being essential?

Cause it’s easy money to milk this to death that is why. When you are treated like a number then this is just a means that provides income to pay for stuff nothing more nothing less.

"All the old timers who were waiting for a package are now more motivated to just leave without it"

no one puts up with garbage better than gen x and baby boomers. old timers will enjoy getting out of the house and getting some vitamin d. RTO won't make a single 60+ consider leaving without a severance. sit back down please

The callbacks for jobs I’m getting are insulting. Less than half the pay, no benefits and usually contract work.

I get paid well to drive in to sit in an office all day and do nothing while sending out resumes to other companies that will hopefully value my skills. Tired of saving the company $millions and getting nothing in return. I’ll just do what’s asked and nothing more. Hasn’t impacted my rating or bonus either way. Really no incentive to do more.

People also say the hate doing laundry or dishes and that they don’t want to do it anymore!

Then they realize they are responsible adults and the job has to get done.

In the case of the employees, that may hate the working conditions and complain about it, they need to pay bills and take care of their families.

because words don't mean anything and words take very little to produce and l, being anonymous makes it cost nothing to go extreme on positions. Human Nature shows itself. Shocking...

“All the old timers who were waiting for a package are now more motivated to just leave without it because who wants to waste their life away reporting to an office 5 days a week when we were all WFH prior to covid?”

Wrong. I’m an old timer. This place su-ks so bad and has been so abusive to me that I enjoy siphoning the good cash and loafing around. I am punishing them and there’s not a damn thing anybody can do about it. Yeah, yeah they will find me at some point, but right now that point is pretty dull. Go sharpen your pencil laddies.

Because in the past, their temper tantrums used to work. In the new world, T will call their bluff and ignore them or make them so miserable that they quit.

it's so easy to get away with actually working very little and still get the nice paychecks almost like free money because there's so many ways to take paid time off while laughing out loud enjoying not having to work and even when I am at work I do so little work it's funny I'm still employed however the company knows they cannot fire me because I'm an overweight black transwomen with a disability due to overeating disorder

5 days RTO was just announced. Give them some time. Its happening. My org just experienced a layoff of 10% that were off payroll last month. There’s several people who are no longer scheduled going forward.

All the old timers who were waiting for a package are now more motivated to just leave without it because who wants to waste their life away reporting to an office 5 days a week when we were all WFH prior to covid?

Then there’s a lot of people who got exceptions from having to report to one of the hubs and have been just hanging out there. I’m hearing that’s ending soon.

In addition, the company is beginning to reject work accommodations. All those people who were excused from reporting are being forced back in too.

Trust me, you’re going to see a drastic reduction in headcount early 2025 for certain.

Too lazy and scared to find another job. Some people work hard to get to the top. Some people just complain about getting passed by.

Because the job market su-ks. C suite’s whole goal with RTO is to get people to quit but if it’s taking people months to years to find a new job, they’re not going to leave, no matter how much they want to.
