If a 603 reports to another 603, is there a scope for career growth. How this works out for high performers. Anyone has experienced this before and what is your thought on such hierarchy?

I see this more often these days.

The ED to MD jump is a big one and not easy by any means. You need to show a very widespread impact across multiple CTO Towers, multiple orgs to be able to make it. Also the number of MD promotions per CTO is likely limited. So the Manager being higher up will have the advantage. But if we are comparing a very influential reportee and a coasting manager, I doubt the manager will make it to MD. In this case, it hurts the Reportee too because the same thing thats preventing the guy from getting to MD, will also prevent him from promoting you to MD.

In my experience this usually means that the higher ranked 603 is on the way to 604 in relatively short time and the arrangement serves as a sort of working interview.

I personally think this is wrong and mistake of ED / MD for keeping such kind of hierarchy which basically defeats purpose of Talent 2.0 which was done early last year.

In such case, manager who is 603 will always steal credit of his reportee 603; will see his reportee 603 as a threat to his position and try to sc--w up his appraisal.
For any promotion, you will have to pray for your manager's promotion firstand then think about yourself next year. Not joking at all.

BTW, I am 601.
