Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

You’re a mean one… Mr. Grinch!

It’s understanding for people to be upset about a 5 day RTO when their entire 20 year career has been a hybrid FOW model. But that’s not where things get really nasty. The part where employees are being treated poorly is to have these demands, yet not provide a dedicated spot for which they can work each day. I am pretty certain that the change in “where you work” has a little to nothing to do with how we’ve been working (or not working). I believe this was their plan all along. Just as other large corporations, T is following marching orders from bigger overlords. What I can’t for the life of me figure out is what the overall objective is. I do wonder if T stock will be impacted in accordance with employee satisfaction? I certainly have complaints, but the biggest one is not having a desk!

Blackrock is pulling all the strings I suspect. The objectives are simple….

  1. Reduce US domestic headcount via RTO and surplus to fluff FCF and posture us for selling off parts of the business
  1. Utilize AI driven metrics (composite of badge swipes, LAN/VPN timestamps via DRS, application and browser logging, geofencing, etc..) to essentially score office work efforts and implement rigid compliance as part of how and where we work.

The first one is pretty obvious is all about driving US domestic salaried employees off the payroll by any means possible. The 2nd is more forward looking and will surely change the work culture at T and not in a good way for innovation. People who clock in at 8 and out 5 every day, normally don’t care about what they do or who they do it for. They just want a paycheck and count min/hours until the weekend.

They want expensive GenX folks to leave so they can hire "younger talent" which is just a code word for the denizens of the sub-continent. Wall Street only cares about the 18 month ROI outlook so there is no short-term cost savings measure that will not be implemented, no matter how devastating the outcome 5 years down the road. US companies are all being picked clean by these activist investor vultures and forced into short-term thinking.

This isn't even possible based on the current set up. Something needs to change in order to implement this.

You're a mean one... Mr. Stink!

You don't have an assigned desk because they ripped them all out and replaced them with telecommuting setups.

Plus Stink is a g l o b a l i s t and does not want to replace the furniture again as he plans on sending all those desks to India!
