The future of AT&T

I would welcome a quarterly surplus of the lowest performers. We can barely keep up with our work demands, which is great for the company, but we need additional resources. Not just warm bodies, but instead workers with a drive to produce and succeed, those who can individually contribute on par with the rest of the team. Org elements with a proven track record should be provided the headcount necessary to move forward. The future lies in better vetting of prospective employees, and more efficiently removing the dead wood who contribute to rot in the core.

The current policies are making sure you are NOT going to get what you need. Managements methods guarantee that high performers are driven away, prospective employees can see what is happening and are driven away, and those with a work ethic are incentivized to not give a damn. Why would you do any more than you are paid for when you work for a company that will keep a slacker over a high performer?

Message to the so called, or professed, "high performers" commenting: Su-kers! You are going to get the same kick in the a-s out the door as the slacker that does nothing but show up.

I consider myself a high-performer, and I'm purposely cutting back on work. Why? Why wouldn't I? With the coming mandate of 8 hours in the office for your 3 days a week (and maybe a required 5 days) I'm now in the office 8 hours (to the minute) 3 days a week. I have been working mornings (4 - 4.5 hours) and finishing the day at home. When I do that, I never finish my day after 8 hours. I always work more. I'm always at that point of "just 10 more minutes and I'll be at a good stopping point". And then its 2 hours later. So, if the company wants their 8 hours, then that's what they will get.

Honestly, if you are giving the company more than 40 hours a week you are giving your time away for free. Do you think the company is going to give you anything extra? Nope. Most likely, they won't even recognize the extra hard work. Good chance they'll lay you off too (and leave that slacker getting a paycheck).

Sounds like a question I was asked in my interview 29 years ago. AT&T stopped caring about that work ethic about 15 years ago, and here we are.

Our policy is to reduce cost by making top performers quit. We are keeping the low performers - they complain less. Thanks for your feedback!

The problem is ID'ing the lowest performers. They might base it upon something like badge swipes or emails sent on Friday afternoons.
