Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO and seasonal illnesses

Since Tuesday there are three people near my desk with some type of respiratory issues, sneezing and coughing, etc. This morning one of the three has flushed skin as if she has a fever. I know kids bring home infections from school, so can we get some guidance on staying away from the office if an employee has a communicable infection please? It needs to be in the form of a mandate since many with illnesses lack the common sense to protect their coworkers.

check 300 north point with a black light. I had the runs and left a few marks on the chairs this week. didn't wash my hands, so I'd avoid keyboards and mice in the east wing

We are on a 5 day in office schedule, 7-3 if I skip lunch. Left the office at 9:15 for a 10:30 Dr appt 15 mins from my house. Barely made it. Left the Dr office at 11:20. Accident jammed up the freeway and I arrived back at the office at 1:15. No parking available so I ended up parking about 4 blocks away. Badged in again at 1:45. Teams call til 2:30. Shift is over at 3:00. Walked back to my car and found the passenger side rear window smashed. I'm out $115, and completed no work of any value. Who is gaining anything from this?

Ask if they have worms in their brain since that's where the healthcare system is headed.

in six months there will be no CDC or regulation over workplace illness. You better su-k it up now, it's going to get a lot worse

This is nothing new. It is frowned upon to miss work sick all the time in the union call centers. This is AT&T and they expect you to be at work rain or shine or sore throat. Always been that way until recently and now that’s over.

It’s coming.

Just wait until the stomach viruses and flu make their way around the office!

Yep I have a guy in my group who has been sick at least 3X this year and comes to the office and he is vax'd, boosted for every available flu/virus. He continues to come into my office to talk and is coughing and looks like death warmed over. I ask him why he comes in when he has sick leave he can take. He says he has no vacation time left and obviously has used his sick time for something other than. I finally told him I really do not want to get sick so if we can discuss via a Teams call to which he seemed offended. I am someone who rarely gest sick and do not handle it well when I do. He got me sick back in March as well as someone else.

AT&T will respond 3 years late and then claim to be the First in our industry segment to do so.

Most of the comments seem to be off base. I think the OP is probably commenting about the Sick bringing their infections to the office rather than taking a sick day. I agree with the comments about not having learned anything from the rapid spread of Covid, and how nasty the office environment becomes when people are irresponsible. Calling the OP a Karen for voicing common sense concern shows that commentor lacks the common sense to appreciate the validity of the Post. It's early yet and will become worse as cold weather sets in.

How are the same people who believe in the vaccine still crying about masks and going to work.

If you are vaccinated and you get the boosters YOU think YOU need why are you worried?

Remember it’s a disease of the unvaccinated.

More sick people coming in to the Atlanta office than we saw in St Louis. Much sneezing, coughing and hacking here. Don't touch any surfaces you don't have too. Carry some sanitizer. Stay away from common area trash cans, people cough up a lung and sp-t into those. Lovely.

Im with the other poster… pack an N95 Mask in your tote and wear it when you need to. Don’t worry about looking hypochondriac-ish. Sc--w what people think about you. Relax and enjoy life. It’s just a $hit job at a $hit company. Rake in the cash and go home. Don’t sweat the bull$hit because it’s all bull$hit once you step outside your home. Enjoy.

To 🤡 🖕s who say “it’s only sniffles, minor cold, etc”, shut the 🖕up. Go around licking all the door knobs if you really want to catch something and show off how much of a man child you are.

This is what I did and will continue to do:

  1. WFH when I’m sick or have symptoms or take a sick day if I’m that bad (everyone should do this if they can).
  1. When someone else came to the office coughing up a lung, I immediately packed up my stuff and went home to work (and updated MOOSE with a brief “other people sick in office”) to have some sort of record for my boss and I to reference to justify presence report.

I still got all my work done so I’ll let the chips fall as they may.

"You can wear your own mask."

The CDC has confirmed that most masks and the way people wear their masks does not actually make anyone safer. You have to wear the M95 mask which still does not stop everything.

Dear OP.

This is a sincere response. I have also had to site by the “It’s just a sinus infection or allergy” people, who come to work sick thinking they are heroes, or they fear they’ll get dinged on a report.

I have also caught their germs and gotten very ill a few times. There is no other desk to move to in our office.

#1 - They are not going to default back to letting you work from home.

Since the CDC relaxed all of their guidelines, the company doesn’t have to do anything but encourage vaccines. You can’t force someone else to wear a mask or stay home or do the right thing.

Remember, your manager is not a doctor, and neither is theirs, and neither are you. No one can tell a person that they must stay home sick.

So what can you do?

You can wear your own mask. If you are ridiculed for doing so, report it as a COBC violation.

You can talk to your doctor about what you need to do to protect your health since you work in a sick room.

You can report your concerns generally to HR and ask them to tighten the illness guidelines. But doubt they will.

If you get very ill and have to go to the doctor, send the bill to your supervisor and ask to be reimbursed as you requested something to be done. You could get reprimanded for that, but depends on how strong you feel about this.

Your error was staying in the office past swiping your ID at the door.

I do think we're going to see people taking more sick days. If you tell me a day of work doesn't count if I don't come into the office, then I'm going to stay home sick and not work when I'm feeling under the weather, when I might have powered through and worked from home before.

We used to call people like the original poster "hypochondriacs". This was in the past, when we could words that actually described people and things.
Yes, reality is judgmental.

Original poster -- face reality, face judgment. You are a precious, fragile hypochondriac.

Move to another desk away from the sick person and bring an air purifier and mask

Move on!

If you are immunocompromised then I guess an office job isn’t for you.

Find a new job at a company that has no other employees, so you can feel safe.

What exactly is your fear- being hospitalized from COVID? That doesn't happen anymore? Coughing and running a fever? Take a sick day. That's what I'll do

"can we get some guidance on staying away from the office if an employee has a communicable infection"

Looking back at the Pre-Covid days, I had hoped this would be a lesson learned from Covid.

" Yes, I informed my manager. He suggested I move to another desk. Did that, now what about the next person to sit in the desk I moved from..."

Seriously, do you not understand that no one, especially your manager, cares?

Your manager is the guy that is going to have to try and explain your miss on compliance with , "Um the people sitting next to Jenny had a cold so she decided she needed to go home and that's why the miss on Friday Nov 15..." He doesn't want to have to do that. The people he is talking to don't want to hear it.

Therefore, see rule #1. They Don't Care.

Presence Report compliance is all that they care about.
