Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any Voluntary surplus rumors?

Has anyone heard of any opportunities to voluntarily raise your hand to be part of the surplus? Seems that would solve the issue with getting more people to leave sooner, which is what they want. I think alot of people would take the severance in a heart beat, especially since they plan to reduce the severance from 6m to 3m sometime next year.

My prediction that hub employees would become much more miserable than impending laid-off non hub employees is coming true.

@hsx+1vzc7e5P incorrect. It was just under 4,000. Small potatoes from what they were hoping for.

Reducing severance may not be factual but I’m guessing it’s highly likely. I got my Wave 3 letter beginning of October and was told that it will likely be January or February when I’m surplussed. Let’s think about why they would not just roll us off by end of year and would rather wait until January or February and have to pay out vacation. Makes no sense other than the new severance policy.

Just retire in place, that's what I have done for the last 5 years, part-time work for full-time paycheck! Gotta love this company cuz management is clueless in everything they do and every decision they make!

People seem to be confused.

Agreed, any "incentive" to volunteer and be surplussed-- those days are long gone.

But if your organization knows they have a surplus coming, you still can always submit your name for consideration.

If you're a mediocre or subpar performer, your manager will be happy to accommodate in most cases. Makes their job easier not having to blindside someone that didn't see it coming, which is always difficult.

Lots of craft personnel waiting for a surplus. Let them all go and reclassify and move surplused managers into work groups who lost too many techs.

They won’t do it as everyone Stank wants to get rid of- the over the hill gang would take it leaving the company with only vendors aka Wipro and the under 30 crowd left running the place.

Because they won’t get anyone to quit. They’ll just retire in place and continue to do the bare minimum to get by. RTO has destroyed motivation.

It’s not going to happen. The company is making it miserable enough to cause people to quit! 5 days in an office that is 5 times the distance you previously were assigned. Constant threats of layoffs. Two times the work because they laid off half your dept. RTO!! Need I say more. Why would they pay you to leave when they can make it so miserable you quit?!!

I heard a couple months ago that they were going to be shutting down locations all over the country that are not considered part of the hub or whatever you wanna call it. With that they will be offering unpaid relocations or possibly volunteer severance -severance hard to believe till we see it.

Why would they do that when they can just get you to quit?
