Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Will joining a union actually help save our jobs?

I see flyers in the lunch room and common spaces spread throughout the AZ campuses trying to get employees to start a union. Will this actually help save our jobs and improve the quality of our jobs? Mgt can just lay us off union or not, right???

You pay high dues and then get layed off. So what good are they except to make the union mgrs money.

No, but it would be sweet revenge on our evil wanna be overlords. That alone is worth it. We're all getting downsized either way.

@psb

Imagine if a massive bank shut down due to a strike. Imagine if several massive banks shut down.

That sounds like collective bargaining to me.

The dockworkers union negotiated a 62% pay increase over 6 years.

That is why management and investors are freaking the eff out about a bank union. Cutting into that $6 Bn per quarter that goes to the richest 10% of the country terrifies them.

@psb is there anything more capitalist than using the power of economic calamity to negotiate? Look at the bailouts the banks negotiated during the global financial crisis in 2008. GM still exists because they used that crisis to acquire funding. Calling a union "communist". You're hilarious.

bfi+1vzmxCgo - dock workers got a raise over the next 6 years after EXTORTING the public with the threat of a logistical distribution shutdown before Christmas.
Yep, that's a Union for ya. EXtortion.

To the union everybody is the same, a warm body. Without union the cream can rise to the top. Personally I'm not against unions because it eliminates different bosses coming and telling you what to do, the job is already spelled out. However for people where it's in their DNA to go above and beyond, they can usually do better with the company bosses.

Didn't the dock workers get some obscene raise recently?

Pi----g off Charlie or not, why join a Union here, PAY them dues and ultimately end nowhere? Literally pay for nothing.

I’m not saying Unions can’t have value. But here there is none and won’t be any for years. Unless the Union stipulates no membership dues until they are able to influence employers, it would be an all around waste.

Look at conservatroll losing its mind over the concept of a union. That should tell you everything about how much it will help American workers.

Won’t get you higher wages and you can ask the UAW about all the union members that got laid off since last contract to understand it won’t save jobs either. They are a thorn in the side of the execs so it may lead to layoffs faster if that’s what you are going for.

Nope, but it'll prop up the poor performers and cap the good ones

Great question - nope it won’t help anything but it will chop your pay in half if you do good work.

Nah, but we should do it just because it will pi-s off Charlie. And maybe we'll benefit from better wages and benefits in the near-term until they complete their mission of offshoring everyone.
