Thread regarding Ford layoffs

on the topic of bankruptcy protection

following the post from "@OP+1w0pa0OM", is HRA money tax free, to us, or how does that work, vs HSA money? I'll need both for healthcare since I won't have medical insurance after the severance time.

It doesn’t seem to be a topic fit for polite conversation abut an economic train wreck has been set in motion.

Signs point to some seriously bad times ahead. I’m thinking that not many companies are going to survive.

Do you guys really think this company is gonna go bankrupt? Is that a serious concern? I’m honestly curious lol u guys don’t even seem to be trolling, just asking genuine questions about how to be ready. What signs lead to this

I don't think the HRA is going away, but the payout isn't increasing as expenses go up.

They will take HRA away just matter of when. Retirees to them are obsolete and insignificant.

My understanding is that the employer manages the HRA, so it is not taxable income. Individuals pay for an approved health expense such as a premium or co-pay then receive reimbursement after submitting proof to the administrator (e.g., Via Benefits). Those that take the lump sum ilo a pension could potentially have ACA subsidies that are better than the HRA benefit each year. Just depends. HRA is not a protected benefit and could disappear at any moment, even for those already retired.

I will make a wild assumption that HRA is not protected. Pension supplemental prior to age 62 is probably not protected either.

I took my lump sum at age 56 and 33 yrs of service. Elimination of HRA has always been on my mind going forward.

Its not like Trump is going to make the health care industry any more efficient. Insurance is the biggest racket out there. I should have sold insurance instead of being an engineer.
