Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stank should talk with Verizon CEO about WFH / RTO

My neighbor works for Verizon and she said that at a recent town-hall, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg was asked about Amazon's announced plans for 5 day/week RTO. He said he was thrilled with the productivity measures he sees with Verizon's 8 day / MONTH policy and the work life balance it afforded and has no plans to change it. Apparently he also mentioned that companies that mandate a total RTO are putting themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to talent acquisition and he thinks most RTO policies being implemented by companies will likely need to be reversed to attract the best new workers. Stankey, call Vestberg for some RTO insight.

The difference is that Stink hates employees and hates that he has to feed our mouths. He’d rather clone himself to do the work but he’d end up bi--hing about the scientists for doing it wrong and lay them off, too. He’s never the problem.

Here's the thing. AT&T views employees as an Expense, instead of an Asset.

A company will invest in assets, as they grow in value. AT&T definitely is not doing that.

An expense is something you pay for, and do pay for maintenance, but expect to throw it away. AT&T provides benefits because its required. They provide the office and desks. But are they assigning seats? No, because that would take investment. That would say they expect you to stick around. They are keeping drop-in seating because they expect and want you to leave and it reduces overhead when you do leave.

Think of yourself as a tire on one of the trucks. They put air in it. Maybe get the tires rotated. But AT&T views one tire to be the same as every other tire. AT&T doesn't care about knowledge or expertise any more than they care that one tire has longer life or better traction. Its all about the money. And AT&T has decided that a spare tire is no longer necessary. How many teams have just a single knowledgeable person today, with no actual backup for vacations and sick time. No backup for when that employee walks away.

These articles that are claiming that companies with RTO are losing expertise and are losing the ability to hire talent don't get that AT&T doesn't care. Stankey and friends are all about the short term stock gain and who gives a sh-t if they sink the company in the long run.

Remember - you are a tire and the only place Stankey expects you to end up is in the landfill.

Stinky won’t follow a competitor; he’s a slave to whatever Google did 3 years ago.

“ Somebody will be taking pictures, videos of employees sitting on the floor, common areas, congested and bathroom with no running water, improper hygiene and supplies… “

Dang right we will.

I love 5 day RTO because I can go missing for 3 hours per day driving in, badging, not finding a seat, taking a quick pic and video, and driving back home. Hello 5 hour WFH days with a CYA wrapped in a bear trap lawsuit just waiting to be opened by some half-wit attorney at T. Hello Jeremey. Deep thinker clown. 🤡

AT&T employees who were supposed to be reporting once a month were coffee badging or not showing up at all. Terrible comparison.

Hey @vbc+1w4hm2mE

You mean the inaccurate presence reports that reflect people not in the office when in actuality they were! Any “deep dive” typically brings these flaws to light and yet the reports are treated as gospel.

“ Verizon does not have nearly as many workers as T. This is not about productivity but making people quit.”
Agree this is about making people quit. They want to replace you with a younger worker. Except they won’t be able to keep those younger workers with the policies they have. Anyone without a pension is going to bounce out of here pretty quick.

I’ll also point out Verizon does not have near the network footprint or infrastructure that ATT does either, so that’s a big reason. Less to manage. Verizon also offshores a lot more than we do to make the numbers look better than they are. BTW they are moving from India based support to Dominican Republic. Same time zone, a lot cheaper and short flights to go there. I have friends that work at Verizon corporate.

No wonder why Verizon is eating our lunch.

They have intelligent, thoughtful, and humane leadership. What a concept!

Take a look in the mirror Stank. You, the board, and your entire spineless leadership chain of yes men are the problem.

This 5 days/week RTO mandate won’t last at T. Nothing is really ever “last” at T run by the incompetent hypocrites manipulative liars. RTO mandates at least at T has NOTHING to do with collaboration. Amazon needed to send thousands of their workers back to WFH since their facilities weren’t ready for some locations. What a joke! But for T though, everyone should comply to go in the office come Jan 6th. It’s going to be chaotic. Somebody will be taking pictures, videos of employees sitting on the floor, common areas, congested and bathroom with no running water, improper hygiene and supplies and send it to the local news he-l all news broadcaster. You want a publicity? You’ll get one. The shareholders are going to see it too. The productivity is going to tank, bad morale, bare minimum effort, missing deadlines, pi---d of customers, and finally the stocks will also tank. Stink conforms and needs to grow a pair. All of them need to grow a pair.

There is no need for conversation after continued deep dives on presence reports. T needs more work and less balance for the many employees who have been working part time from home.
