Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

RTO - Topic again

With Elon Musk and his team forcing Federal employees for a 5-day work week (part of Trump's DOGE) will the commercial firms follow the same directive ?

I was doing my calculation for the next few months.. The "use your PTO or lose it" rule forced me to be off-work for an extended period of time. It worked out fine for December but is hurting the Jan and Feb requirements with the add on for recharge time.
And then I noticed that they have published the new period for 2025 (until Dec 2025) giving the impression that Agile Flex will continue next year also.

But at the same time - 4 day requirement for Agile and 3 day requirement for Agile Flex - is being floated around. Adding to this gossip fire is the DOGE fuel that even Feds are forcing 5-day work week. In fact the expectation is resignation by a lot of Federal Employees.

I am wondering how much HR will take that as a mandate and enforce 5-day work week this year?

Will the RTO make you take a second look at leaving BNY ? The day-care expense itself is a big factor in making that decision.

Hearing rumors that we’re going to be back to 5 days. Anyone else?
Currently looking for another opportunity.

I know people who had an arrangement of 3 days at home and 2 at work, pre covid.
My entire team was hybrid, Bank had a flexible working arrangement policy. We filled out forms through HR.
Those who are acting this is completely new are misinformed.

You can google these:

232 employees at BNY Mellon rank their Compensation in the Bottom 20% of similar sized companies in the US (based on 703 ratings) while 221 employees at BNY Mellon rank their Perks And Benefits in the Bottom 20% of similar sized companies in the US (based on 237 ratings).

I have been here more than 10 years+ because I think low paid but stable. Now low paid and unstable job, I am leaving after 401K match.

@2uwv+1wcKORVa I agree with the other poster. I too was able to WFH 1 day a week then as managers got more comfortable with it, 2 days a week several years before covid. It was the whole perk of BNY laying off our staff and moving the staff work to India since it was offsite anyway. Now they’re just doing RTO to show they are in control. It’s a power move and that’s all. Same work is getting done now as 10 years ago.

Hey tardo, it’s you that needs to stfu and close your blow hole. WFH was an option loooooooongggggg before COVID and it was workable and fine. I used to have it and life was fine. In fact, it was one of the more attractive things we had to make this place tolerable. Then came Robin and that was the end. So, no, its not that this was some policy that was abused by the majority. No. It was analyzed and turned into a we-pon of mass layoff destruction for chowderheads like you who believe the workers are all just on the take. You po-op filled scarecrow!

You all need to stfu about RTO already. The only reason this was ever even an option was because of covid. Otherwise it would never have happened. Why tf would any of you think it would continue after the sh-t show most of you displayed during the time we had to be home. And the call outs and disgusting work ethic haven't stopped yet. Be for real, stfu and actually do your jobs already.

DOGE has nothing to do with private industry.

Don’t think that we’re hiring the brightest bulbs these days.

@faw

Not true… Bank pay is based entirely upon location and role. Period. For example.. If you’re a grunt now, then JPM will pay you exactly the same as a grunt here +/- regional adjustments for cost of living.

That’s how it works.

You’re working in a corporation. You can always jump to another. It’s not difficult unless you’re interview shy.

I agree with a lot of things Musk says but he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. His argument for RTO is that it's "not fair" for those who have jobs that require on-site participation. That's like saying it's not fair that some people have to have chemo so we better make everyone suffer through it.

My favorite hilariously funny millennial was married and I happened to ask him ask him if he had kids. He said “Kids?, do you how much pampers cost? We laughed about that for years.

Bny is in the bottom 20 of lowest paid in industry. New rto policy is commit su----e to get good resources.
I never heard anyone wants to work with Twitter since Musk stepped in. Musk idea will fail in Long run.

The school bus arrives at 8:30 and drops at 3:30 ! Commuting to city costs 2 hrs in and 2 hrs out. WFH eliminates the cost without any hindrance to work.
Before school and after school care is expensive.
It is my mistake that I raised it here a place filled with insensitive ..

WFH does not include child care. After the age of one you cannot effectively work and care for a child during the same hours.

What a stew pidd and je-ko post. First, you aren’t a public govt employee. Second, even a 4 day old cheeseburger know what RV and HR want to do with WFH now. Third, this place is pulling US and UK employees like bad teeth and going to India to use cheap and dim replacements. Instead of Musk, you better get your own act together. And ps- the federal government is a morbidly obese unsustainbe do nothing structure. It needs layoffs , program cancellations and big reductions.

With what office space? And does it really matter? “RTO” is a way of downsizing without paying out anything. Once they’ve eliminated as much as they could due to “RTO” then the next thing will be productivity (yes productivity actually declines when you’re in the office full time - who would’ve thought?). It’s a loophole that is being exploited. It’s not about “collaboration” or “client experience” because if it was everyone would be in one office and not spread out throughout the US as well as internationally.
