Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What's next after RTO?

Per Jeremy Legg's email, they're not increasing seating because they expect people to quit as a result of the 5-day RTO mandate.

Let's speculate what comes after when things don't pan out exactly as they would hope. How do you make employees uncomfortable enough to quit as to not pay them severance?

I'll start:

Baby monitors, one assigned to each employee. Employees will be required to be monitored by an OpenAI-powered productivity AI, which will measure your engagement and attentiveness to the screen. If your score trends low, you will be terminated for cause. No warnings given.

"By the end of 2025 the work stations will have desktops. Nobody will have laptops."

That's not going to happen. While they take away your flexibility, executives absolutely want you to have your laptop at home so you can work any time. And they think you will. Proof is that they aren't giving you an assigned desk, so you HAVE to take that laptop home.

Just another example of the delusional thinking of our management.

“Is anybody here who is planning to commute from Chicago to Dallas starting 1/06?”

I am. Arlington Heights to be specific. Staying at a crash pad used by four rotating flight attendants and a pilot. Was told there is usually at most one person there at any time but there has been two hot blondes there regularly. Not like that scrawny, boney, squeaky witch voice lady Arnoldi. The pilot guy does look a little like the stink so I verbally abuse him every time I see him.

.... Does anyone know how many bathroom breaks were allowed per day?

There is no company limit on the number of bathroom breaks in a day, it is illegal to stipulate (you won't find it on HROS). However if your supervisor determines you are taking an excessive number or duration of breaks, they can request you obtain a Job Accommodation to support your behavior. Failure to obtain the medically supported JA will result is a COBC for Work Avoidance. The rule of thumb used by HR and Legal is 5 minutes per break and one every 2 hours, not counting breaks specified by union contracts (applies to mgt and non-mgt). Exceeding this triggers the ADA conversation
to request for a Job Accommodation.

In June! it’s 6 days / week and half the desks… because you all should be collaborating. … isn’t that why you are behind that windshield?

I get the point but that's just not possible. There will always be a large section of the production ops support model that is on call.

The bathrooms are going to have an open seating concept with no stalls to further collaboration.

“ One of the reasons some have stayed longer is due to retirement healthcare reductions. If they don’t qualify for Medicare yet they are staying till they do.”
Well, you probably should have punched out before they cut the benefit. You could have always collected your retirement, health benefits and just got another job. Those waiting on Medicare to kick in probably should just punch out now and get another job, you’d make more with the retirement and other job income. Not to mention the new employer likely has better benefits anyways. Our plans are garbage here.

I imagine they’ll be monitoring this closely as well to ensure maximum collaboration.

Perhaps the use of bathroom passes like we had in school would help improve collaboration….

By the end of 2025 the work stations will have desktops. Nobody will have laptops. 1st come 1st serve and it is the only was you will be able to clock in. But the good news is they will have 2 or 3 shifts so you can get some time in. Exempt employees will have a leg up since they don't have to clock.

BYOD is toast, but BYOTP will be implemented. They will no longer fund the wiping of your _utt. The savings to the “bottom” line will be significant.

That decision backfired for T.

They will cut the retirement benefit again so that those waiting on a severance or package will have to leave or face more reductions. Most should have left before the medical benefit was impacted. Kind of foolish of them to hang on after that. Just shows they will accept whatever which is why we are all getting treated like trash.

ANYTHING they can do to make people the MOST uncomfortable.

We ALL know the reason for ALL of this and it’s NOT about collaboration.

I'm going to go with mandatory catheters and colonoscopy bags because I wouldn't put it past them to take away restrooms at this point.

On a serious note, they will likely restructure vacation, the last and only reason to stay at this company. Too many people taking days off at the end of the year, leading to a dip in productivity.
