Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

Who Decides?

Who makes the decision on each individual that is laid off? Is it local, regional, or made in Houston? Is it a committee or an individual? And what factors are used to decide why that individual is laid off?

I was laid off and held a salary position. I saw corruption and lies occur within management. Those were the same ones who decided the layoffs. I stood up for what wasn't right because it went against my values. I embrace this as a challenge in my life to be an overcomer. I appreciate the small severance that we got. But the bad times have just started at BHI. More people will get stomped on by management trying to save their own jobs, and I hate that for my friends. I was a believer in BHI. But I know what's coming. I'm just trying to cope with the anger that I feel right now with the lies that I've seen. I honestly don't know how some can sleep at night. But I will overcome and my kids will survive through this.-

This is what my boss said when I asked him how he decided who was going to be laid off. He said Houston told him he had to reduce his head count by 20 they didn't care who or what department. Then he got with Supervisors and the cuts began supposedly based on performance but again the buddy factor is always is a big part too. Just gotta know who to brown nose and hope it was the right person.

Every manager is required to rank all of his subordinates, at least that's how I have seen it in the past. It's the managers discretion on that ranking. Usually the people at the bottom on the ranking list are the one's to be escorted out. Salary and just personal feelings about a worker do enter into the rankings. No way to prove it legally, but it's the ugly reality.

Been curious about this myself. I was let go from the Tomball campus and one guy retains his job even though his work is not stellar and he acts extremely unprofessionally when working out of town. He was hired on two years ago by our supervisor. Everyone would later learn that they have been best friends and lived down the street from one another for like 10 years. No one was suppose to know at the time and they were very hush hush about it. If our supervisor has any rating process, I'm sure he's giving his best chubby bud high ratings.

Total Compensation is the main criteria. You can be a hero, working 14 hours/day (salary) for BHI, if you want. But don't be shock, when you are escorted to the slaughter room.

Supervisors rate each employee 1-4. Managers receive the list and are told by area managers which groups to let go.

I think it's a personal opinion made by someone who doesn't have a clue.
