I wanted to see if anyone had experience working for MediaTek. I've been offered a position with MediaTek, I'd get a slight (8%) overall comp bump, most other things would remain pretty much the same (responsibilities, type of work, etc.) - I am a Senior Software Engineer here at the Q. Anyhow, I am not eager to leave but I have a slight feeling that things will not get much better over here for a while and that we'll be hitting Cisco-like annual resource purge waves for years. I wanted to see if anyone had info on how things work on the other side and if this would be a prudent move. Thanks in advance!

Huawei is a copy-cat company. It built its technology by stealing SW and HW design, like most China based companies. Chinese government endorses and participates in industrial espionage to help the industry, and then government officials become officers of those companies and make millions for their own packet. MTK and TSMC are Taiwan based, and a world of difference.
I would not trust them. A colleague from QTI went to work for Huawei. The picked his brain for 18 months and then laid him off. Huawei does this with everybody they hire. I see no reason why MediaTek would be any different.
MTK and TSMC sound better than QCOM. I'm getting my resume over the toote de suite.
You should know that while MTK and TSMC have strange culture, but don’t be misled. TSMC employees receive huge annual bones rivaling annual salary, and they do feel pride and ownership in what they do.

You guys are way to too biased to see how MTK will be a serious threat. Taiwanese politics has existed long ago, and this is the same practice that put TSMC on top on world. Do you think TSMC has less politics than MTK? It is the contrary. Morris rules TSMC like an emperor, or at least he is viewed at one. He is really a nice guy, but his presence is fear by all in TSMC. MTK will take down QC like TSMC took down IBM, Charter, Global, etc.
I'd hate to work at a company where I have no input or direction on my projects. Makes for boring and mindless work. I'd rather not spend 8-15 hours of my day doing something mindless and boring.
MTK is definitely more efficient, but it works in a different way. Group alignment and favoritism is all part of overcoming bumpy execution. Disagreement is always discouraged. You need to go along and be agreeable, especially with executives. In other words, suck up. With that said, they execute more efficiently for sure.
I haven't worked for MediaTek but my wife still does work over there. Here is my two cents. You'll likely work for a manager who is incompetent and was a political appointee, keep in mind MediaTek is highly political and there are cliques of all varieties sprinkled throughout the organization. Any independent work is nearly impossible and you'll have to align yourself with one of the groups and float with them. All major decisions are driven from the mothership in Taiwan, unless you are tuned in and connected you will have minimal to zero ability to influence and decision that have impact. So, get ready to spend major amount of time in late night conference calls and travel to Taiwan in order to accomplish anything. As for "penny pinching", I'd say they pay pretty much the same as we do, medical is not 100% free, I'd budget in around 2K a year for a relatively healthy family of 4. You will work very long hours at times, you should be used to this given that you are from Qualcomm. Good luck.
More growth there in the short term. Maybe they don't spend 70% of resources managing processes and fiddling with Microsoft project. Brave new world
Hey guys, the OP here - I asked a frank question and I appreciate all views and optioning here. I am considering this and I am still far from accepting it. Rational thinking based on what I know tells me to stay put, but at the same time I'd like to explore the option so I can make a good and somewhat educated decision. I talked to one person who used to work over there and Glassdoor helps as well. I hope this clarifies things a bit and makes sense.

LOL @ Mediatek. You really think they will treat you better? Think of the type of devices they sell and how much margin they have per device. QC pays for free medical, does Mediatek? I'd also bet QC will be here a lot longer than Mediatek.
I heard they are penny pinching, no free coffee man, that'd break the deal for me
