Laid off in 2008. Approached for rehire in 2011 ... explained that the boom and bust of the oil field required me to ask for a higher pay than typical, followed it up with how sports talent is highly, in part, because of their short careers. As such, I'd need a contract with guaranteed pay over 5 years, triple my old salary. They laughed until they realized I was serious, then they were not amused. I told them to stick it up their executive a$$es.

Good job! I did the same. I was laid off in 2009, life shattered. I was called back in 2011, apparently, my LinkedIn page intrigued the hiring manager. I told him, 5 times my previous pay and a guaranteed contract that I can remain employed for 5 years, irrespective of the ups and downs of the company and only I am allowed to walk away at my discretion,with a severance pay of 3 times the amount of my paycheck. He laughed, I told him to get lost.
