About 35K now, I think

I think it's 35,000 employees now
From a global report in February, total employees was just under 52000...I would guess that we're closer to 45,000 now.
I agree with Anonymous88303 this is just the start of it there's lots of employees with their heads in the sand thinking their safe even the targeted 40,000 employee level could be superseded if things don't start moving, Sad fact unless the Middle East implodes and the Saudis get dragged in to even deeper conflicts or Obama tells Iran the deals off or with we have a once in a lifetime summer freeze then this downturn is not going away? If I was a young engineer starting out again today I would steer well clear of the Oil industry! Some industry insiders are quoting 18 months before some stability comes back 18 months is a long time to keep your head in the sand.
At least 3,000 more in USA will be laid off or on buyout BEFORE the end of June. So it is definitely going to affect the numbers mentioned here. Some are in the denial of being laid off. They have a false sense that "I wasn't laid off on last go around, so my job is safe." They will surely be brought back into the oil industry reality, which is this, put so simply: You are not safe and you cannot think you are. Be prepared to support yourself and your families. People WILL be laid off and facilities in USA WILL be closed. And if you wish to keep your head in the sand and think your indispensable you will be sadly mistaken.
Used to have 65000, now with all these laid offs, the company just has about 50000
With less than that in the very near future, due to the closing of several manufacturing facilities in the coming months. Check the numbers again then. If you are looking for employment and this is the purpose of your inquiry, I strongly suggest looking at another much stable Company to work for. Especially if you are in Texas.
