Walk into any lab and it's all T badges, half of them pink.

It's the future of Qualcomm as the IP portfolio is thinned out by flat LTE networks and modems grow into more and more a commodity like WiFi modems.

The glory days are over.

There are tons of positions that don't contribute to the bottom line (but are still important). one glaring exception is HR.

The thing with in-house IT is that it doesn't really contribute to the bottomline of Qualcomm's profits. You are't producing anything that is sold to customer. So of course the powers of be will always try to find a way to squeeze down cost, because for them, IT is an expense/liability. It doesn't generate income.

In-house IT just sucks. It sucks from a personal job satisfaction and it sucks from a compensation perspective. IF you're in San Diego, go work for a consulting firm like Booz Allen or something similar. At least you would be compensated for it.

Or work for a software company that has a data center. For example, Amazon, Google, Intuit, etc.

Replacing IT with outside contractors is a rather short-sighted move for a company whose primary source of income is intellectual property.
