Currently, we are hiring engineers through the LEAD program. Just last week HSE did a new hire orientation for 6 of them. Now I for one was hired by Baker as a technician, even though i met all the requirements to be an engineer. The reason they gave me and many others in my batch is that there were no openings at that time. Throughout the years, we have stayed as techs while newbies straight out of college came in as engineers. These individuals came in with a chip on their shoulder and spat on the hard work it took to get the company running. They were promoted and moved on while we were stuck where we were because, as management would say "no one else could get the job done like us". Now seeing as we are firing the hard working little people, why the f%&k are we still hiring engineers through LEAD? Morale in GOM is exceptionally low because we have to cut back on work hours and rotate shifts while these noobs come in and go to houston on training. We are firing on one side and hiring on the other. Then management will have a meeting and announce that headcount is too high and we aren't making enough money. Well done Baker. Well done!

Pray, don't plan! Oilfield is a blessing, but it is not your source, Jesus will give you the peace you need to get through the storm :) God Bless you all!
Do you have a four year engineering degree from an accredited ABET school? If so you were an idiot for taking a technician job in the first place. Should have taken an actual engineering position elsewhere.
you my friend need to go to the gulf. FE 's over there are literally worshipped like Jesus
I have heard that they cancelled a BHI Experience for new FEs in Canada, so they probably aren't hiring anymore. The ones that are just starting were probably offered the job half a year ago before the downturn and red/blue debacle. The company gets tax breaks for hiring new grads so that could be the reason why.
As an FE myself, I am quite scared about whats to come. Your views about "spitting on the hard work" is far fetched because we do everything the Operators do and that includes sweeping the floors and other labor work... which I doubt will help me get a job as an Engineer.
what they are doing is getting cheaper engineers out of school and firing the more expensive experienced ones. This is actually illegal under ERISA law. However try to find some document that they actually are doing this. HR is smart and sneaky, they will not leave any evidence to this fact. So good luck and try to find a better company to work for.

Not much sympathy from Aberdeen today.
