Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

All who were laid off, any luck finding another job?

I was recently laid off the last week of March and I've applied to 30+ supply chain related jobs that I thought I wouldn't mind doing. I had two interviews request but one opportunity is near Hobby airport and I live north of Jersey Village so that is a huge no no. The second one is with a major energy company but unfortunately they called off the interview because they just hired someone last Friday :-(. Back to square one.

So, I was wondering if you guys had any luck? Please share what department you came from.

I was laid off in January. I can usually find a job in two to three weeks and within about three interviews. I've been to over ten interviews and have heard back from only about three. Employers are balking at hiring anyone and cutting the pay scale to about a third of what I was making before. The job boards are drying up and what is on them is months old. You can't blame the recruiters because they're not getting any info either. Cold calling businesses is proving to be useless too because they're afraid to hire anyone in the current economy.

Going on four months...no job. Time to either move out of state or start flipping burgers.

Companies don't need to utilize recruiter services. Yes there are jobs, and a lot of people looking, so the companies have plenty of fish in the pond that are willing to find a boat of their own and jump into it. And for what it's worth there is the makings of a discussion on the Schlum board about what jobs may actually be out there. That discussion has hope, if it doesn't get derailed by the pundits.

Hate to break it to you- but recruiters don't work for YOU unless YOU are paying them. The majority of agency recruiters get paid, on contingency, by the client. If the client doesn't have any jobs, just what do you expect them to do? It's not magic, it's the economy.

To go even further? A recruiter has to have a good product to work with. If you are disrespectful to your recruiter, how are you going to behave at the client? Pretty sure with a bad attitude, the client won't even see your resume. Good luck.

No, crowded market. Hesitation due to business trends. Layoffs now headed downstream. Head hunters ineffectual. Buyers market. Best if you are 45 or younger.
