Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Hello All - its HR again and our heartfelt sympathies are with you all today again.

Sorry about these cuts but we do need to deliver on the "do more with less" strategy and these cuts are also a key part of Paal's transformation initiative that ensures we can be much more efficient, get out costs down and keep our shareholders happy. This of you who own SLB stock will surely understand this.

The good news is we will need to recruit aggressively once the oil price recovers so do keep an eye on our careers page.

As usual If we can help with anything at all pls just drop us an email at Ask HR - we are here to help!

We will do all we can to help our ex employees however if we find we can get new employees cheaper then we will need to think of the shareholders first and the stock price. Hence we look for the best deal for the company. We cannot offer any guarantees to ex employees I am afraid.

I wish we could do it differently but we simply must make the highest profits and keep our shareholders and CEO happy. I am sure those of you who own SLB stock will agree with us here and those of you who don't may want to consider buying some stock whilst it is at such a low price.

Please let us know if we can help you with anything.

Why don't you just contact the employees you laid off when it's time to start hiring?

Anonymous92064 - it is bad logic to assert that only those working in the field create income. How is field work achieved without tools, communications, support etc? . The converse seems more plausible - most guys in the field are expensive overheads who should be replaced by automation.

I also work with the big blue SLB, and am curious as to how many office workers are affected as compared to the "real" workers of these companies? You know, the workers in the fields who are actully making the money that is paying the wages of the office workers, and Paal, and the shareholders. When the prices do rebound, and they will, good luck getting the experienced workers to come back to this place! I don't understand how laying off experienced workers, then eventually hiring green hands, and paying thousands of dollars to train these new workers, is economically sensible! Trim the "fat" from the top down.

The Wall Street Journal got it right: SLB management is more concerned for their stock price than the welfare of it's now-ex employees. Meanwhile they continue to pay consultants (with just a 15% cut in pay in my area) while employees are getting laid off right and left back home. The guys that run this disgraceful heap of manure have no shame. Goes along with why I never took them up on their discount stock purchase plan... I'd be ashamed to claim ownership in this crap and I prefer to invest elsewhere.

Too funny. If this post would have been made by a professional HR group the focus would have been on people, not the stock price priority, To those who lost jobs - move on. You will be a much happier soon.

Should Human Reaources be changed to Inhuman Resources given we as employees are just numbers on a spreadsheet ready to be fired as required with HR managing the process a bit like the Nazis did in WW 2 genocides.

I can't believe people reply to this dork posing as HR. Hey..pretender..go find a job. You have way too much time on your hands to be posing as a staff member of SLB.
